Stand almost complete

Posted 01/31/2013 at 08:22 PM by Avonlea,PA (My Journey into Reefkeeping)

I put the final coat of paint on the stand last night. It's looking really sweet. All that is left now is to paint and install the doors, which are expected to arrive tomorrow by FedEx. I also completed the electrical today. I now have a dedicated 15 amp circuit behind where the stand will be, as well as a shared 15 amp circuit ( the new circuit is the one with the 4 outlets in the pic below). I also put a low voltage access in the wall to eventually run an Ethernet line for the Apex that I will...

First coat of paint

Posted 01/30/2013 at 10:29 AM by Avonlea,PA (My Journey into Reefkeeping)

First coat of paint went on this morning:

I also installed the floor tile on the inside:

Pictures are not the best, sorry.

I must say that I'm very pleased with how the stand turned out...

A few more pictures

So, I got the first coat of primer on all of the visible exterior today. I moved the stand from my shed/workshop to inside my house where the environment is cleaner and warmer and I have more room. It was not as heavy as I thought, but very awkward to move BY MYSELF.

The stand roughly where it will be placed:

Alright, so things are progressing along. I* was able to build my stand in just a few days time. I'm in the final stages now; just sanding and prepping for paint. I built my stand based on this one: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1213499. Turns out Dustin, the member who built it, now sell plans for it on eBay. It was worth the $14.95 to me. I'm building mine without the side book cases. I'm also holding off on building the top portion for a while, as I won't need it...for a while....

Let it Begin

Posted 01/19/2013 at 05:27 PM by Avonlea,PA (My Journey into Reefkeeping)

About 8 years ago, I decided to get into reef keeping. I set up a 180 gallon tank with a custom stand that I built in my apartment bedroom. It was a work of art, if I do say myself. Then the worse thing ever happened (well, not really...but read on)...I met someone. It was love instantly. I decided to move to Florida to get married, but sadly, my tank could not go with me. It was 98% set up. It was ready for water and live rock.

Well, so is life. Fast forward 8 years and I'm now...
