Be sure to fill the sump area with a little water first, and check the silicone for leaks. I bought a Nuvo 16 a couple weeks ago and nothing was siliconed properly. Leaks everywhere, and into the display area as well.
|
You have to fill both sections at the same time. Unequal pressure will cause the false wall silicone to fail.
Looks like a good project. Subscribed. |
Thanks for the advise on filling the tank, I was wondering if there was a good way to add water to the tank. My last nano was a AquaPod so the water fill was "abc". i'm chatting with IM about some minor things with the tank, they're pretty amazing with regards to getting back and finding resolutions.
I'm starting to paint my apt. so build out pics will follow in a couple of week. Any thoughts about a fish free reef system? |
I think a fish free reef of that size would be boring.
Love my corals and clam, but the pair of clowns makes it interesting. |
[dup post, please erase]
|
Yup, I had one that popped too. I was filling the rear section first and it popped into display area a little. I had it replaced and the second one was not great either and is separated a little, but its ok.
Fill both areas equally and if you have to choose one side to overfill, it should be the display side so pressure it put on the acrylic.. Looks like you have a good start on your setup! :) |
So, after 3 days of dialogue with IM, they are sending a replacement Nuvo 16 with the new glass slide behind the acrylic divider. They are now releasing the newer model to help with the seal and issues that they had with the first gen. This should address how the tank can be filled and possible sand shifting into the area where the return pump would go.
I've dealt with a ton of companies over the last 15 plus years and I have to say that these guys have their game together. I'm going to be dealing with them again. @VGT, I think you're right, the tank would seem a little boring without some fish movement. |
Just curious... when you get your 2nd gen Nuvo report back on the stock pump it comes with. The one that came with mine was loud.
|
the pump on my Nuvo 38 is pretty quiet.
|
Hey Nick,
Yeah the stock pump is pretty loud but that's probably how they keep the price down on the user end. I actually picked up a maxijet 600 to replace it for the 16. quieter and a lot more push. I think they are just sending me the tank though and not the guts but I'll keep you guys in the loop. |
Nice toys. Just wondering why you pick the Maxspect Razor 120w and not somethiing like the radion. I have the same setup and thinking about upgrading my light. BTW I hate that skimmer. I fits perfectly and that might be the only good thing about this skimmer. It's been 3 month and still lots of micro bubble in the display.
|
Few reasons I chose the maxspect,
1. price 2. dim factor 3. programable I didn't want to deal with timers anymore, both the MP10 and Max relieves me of that issue. the design was nice, tank mountable works better for me than ceiling mount. I like the purple hue that some don't like but then again it really comes down to what I'm planning on keeping. I'm going with a "minimalist" look and moving away from the "rock wall" on this system so corals won't be so high and being able to dim resolves the possibility of bleaching. Yeah, I'm not so impressed with the skimmer, looking at Tunze as an option but will be running the system skimmer-less after the cycle for a few months and then figuring it out then. But the Maxspect give you a great bang for the buck, I'm looking into trying to mod it with some reds and greens, possibly placed with the 420s but not sure if I'm good enough to do that yet. Got some pics? |
why does this thing keep double posting?
|
How do you like the color of the MaxSpect? I am looking at doing the Nuvo 38 and this tank looks like a killer set up.
|
I like the colors, some think it's too purple but it's programable so you can tinker with it quite a bit. I'm trying to figure out how I can add a green and red led in there somewhere.
My other option was the Tesla Svelte from OCReef.com which did a pretty nice system for less than 400.00 and the have a green and red built in but I can't hang from my ceiling and needed a mountable system. You should check that out if you have the space to hang. Quick Update: 1. changing the stock return pump to a Tunze Silence Pump/Powerhead 1073.008. 2. Skimming for cycle and running a skimless system 3. will be adding slipstream to one return. Waiting on the replacement tank with the new glass divider and then it's water time! |
I wish I can afford all those nice toys for my nuvo, seriously I don't think you need a protein skimmer on a nuvo 16, just do big water change and add some chemipure and purigen.

**update**
So we are at 90% ready to start making water, here are some pics of the empty system with the replacement Nuvo 16, I like these guys. Full Tank http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...psf7ea5c22.jpg Breeder Fuge w/ LED lights Top view of filtration http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ps3348eea9.jpg White Lights only http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ps713471bd.jpg Blue Lights only http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ps1079054a.jpg Both Lights http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ps654cd613.jpg Fuge Set up is a Finnex HOB w/ 22watt LED Wht/Blue, it may be too much but if it is, I'll move it to the first bidder! Breeder Box http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ps8849267a.jpg Picture is pretty bad but I drilled additional downward holes into the spray bar to allow water flow through the fuge, and running it with a cheap 120gph mini ph. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ps477952e4.jpg I know, those are probably way too many LEDs, we'll see though http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ps68b8afc7.jpg Thanks for peeping! |
Can you post some more details on the 2nd Gen 16?
|
The only change that was made was on how the display is divided. The black acrylic wall is now supported by a glass sheet that goes from the bottom to middle of the filtration side.
Apparently the first gen had issues with sealing at the base of the acrylic that allowed water leakage from front to back. They did a great job resolving this issue. Here's a pic, not a great camera and not great at picture taking. http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...ps9b3cbad2.jpg |
Looking forward to updates on the Finnex Fuge
I think the Finnex fuge is the best add-on for the money on this Nuvo16 (or for any 4 to 16 gal nano). Please keep us posted with pics if possible on how you utilize the HOB fuge. I am ready to purchase 3 of these and would love to learn from your progress (or lack ther of)...good luck
PS - I agree that the NUVOs and Innovative Marine are the only choice for AIO NANOs! I had an issue and called, I thought they were going to come to my house at one point...almost had to clean the place. Luckily we resolved due to their exhaustive efforts to make me happy. Love those guys!:love2: |
