Calcium reactor: Geo or Reef Octopus?
Hello all,
Iīm deciding between a GEO 618 calcium reactor or the Reef Octopus 200. At least in paper both units look very good, even do ROīs pump is DC and I really like the one that came with my RO Elite 200-int skimmer. A friend of mine told me the RO is harder to calibrate, but thatīs from what heīs heard. Which one would you get? comments? experiences? Thanks in advance. Marco |
I dont run a CaRX, but I learned when I was considering one that Geo is far superior than most out there. That is a good quality piece of equipment.

With a calcium reactor, I wouldn't fuss with expensive to replace DC pumps. Go with a reliable pump that has a readily available replacement if it becomes necessary. These pumps run in a harsh environment and take a beating so reliability is key. I bought an older GEO 612 that has a rock solid reliable Eheim pump. The newer GEOs come with Sicce pumps.
IMO, part of the appeal of GEO calcium reactors are solid construction and simple yet efficient and effective design. It just plain works and works well. In addition, the customer service and support from Serdar (and George before that) is top notch. There's a reason so many experienced stickheads run GEO calcium reactors. |
go geo, great unit, they are easy to get hold of if there is a problem and the carry replacement parts

Thanks for your comments. I keep hearing more and more good comments about Geoīs reactors!
And LQT, I think youīre correct in regards of prefering a simple but reliable pump, as opposed to a DC which is much expensier. Regards |
I sent an email to Geo and had a response within minutes.
Take that FWIW. |
I prefer the MTC ProCal, having run it for almost 20 years, as a step above the rest (well, most of them); though I appreciate you didn't include it in your choices  Consider it an unsolicited opinion. Also keep in mind that circulating water though a canister full of media presents considerable back pressure, something the venerable AC pumps have done well for decades.

It is really a one man made in America product, I have been to the shop a number of times as he built my tank, media reactors, CaRx and my old becket skimmer Corey |
Thanks all for comments. Problem now is Geos reactor are out of stock for weeks!
If they are not in stock during this week I will order the Reef Octopus. |

GEO. Hands down.
I ran one for years. Well built, easy to use, effective. |
Geo! I've had my running for years too. They make very high-quality calcium reactors at very good prices! They are worth the wait!

Call Geo's reef. I emailed before MACRA and was told 2 weeks but when I called he built one for me and shipped in 5 days. Support is good and emails returned within 24 hours or less. He also answers the phone occasionally.
I'm a RO fan but the Geo is built to take a beating. |
I recommend GEO. Outstanding service.

i've run a RO 2 stage CArx for 15 months now without any issues. i control the Ph within the reactor with an apex Ph probe. basically set it and forget it. good luck with whatever CArx you go with.
