My biggest hitch hiker 1 year later

Sorry for photo quality. He is not a fan of the light.

He's about 6" long now.

We catch those monsters in our coastal waters as well. Some close to 8 lbs.

He is mostly by himself. There are 2 crabs - both with a body about the size of a silver dollar - in the tank with him.

He really hates light - unless I shine a flashlight into his lair - then he'll position himself at the opening and wait for food.

Seems to be doing well on pices of raw shrimp, salmon and scallops a couple times a week.

Something has been slowly getting rid of the whelk snails - not sure if it's this guy or something else. They were the only critters I really have a dislike for - somehow one of them travelled from this tank, through the sump and up to my other tank and ate our Desera clam.

You know - that is sort of cool that you decided to keep it. Odd looking fella but still heck of cool.

I like his weird "beard"!

It's cool to see other animals in tanks that you don't see in your every day pet shop. The LFSs around here all pretty much carry the same sort of stock. The common stuff that gets imported to be wholesalers.

So much variation out there in the ocean but collectors tend to always get the same stuff they know sells.

June 2018 - got some pretty good footage of him eating including a couple slow motion shots. Skip directly to

In the winter I have caught those on Veterans reef off Clearwater. 12-14” long, and a son of a B to get the hook out of. Their teeth look like they can crush anything!
