Maroon Lagoon V2.0
Hey all! A local reefer asked me if I had a build thread on RC yesterday and shamefully I have kept my build on a local forum so I thought I would finally share it here.
Tank details: Size: 120 gallons Lighting: LED (Orphek Atlantik V1 and modified OR) and two 4' T5s running ATI coral plus. Filtration: BK mini 300, biopellets, GFO, carbon, and chaeto in the fuge. Control: Neptune Apex controller Flow: two Jebao WP25 running off the Apex Dosing: reef octopus CaRX My brother in law is a talented welder and he built my stand for me and I had it powder coated. Currently still working on building the skin for the stand with inlayed rare earth magnets to attach to the stand. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...3e0b6d0667.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...601b937a54.jpg I think the best addition I made to the stand build was adding drawers underneath the sump. I can't believe how convenient they have been and helped in keeping the sump area free of clutter. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...86b42dfc37.jpg LEDs attached to the hood on drawer sliders so I can adjust their position and pull the lights out for better access. http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...cd924b05f3.jpg The hood with a top down shot http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...6e473f37d2.jpg http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...7d596b0917.jpg Full tank shot April 2016 http://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/2016...9225017812.jpg |

Good job bro!. Corals seems happy. Congrats!
|
Hey Gig, NICE!
Corals look great. I can only assume the larger clam is clam Armstrong. With all the 'juice', it's gotten big! So, pellets, gfo and cheato.. what are your target n and p levels? |

The larger clam was Clam Armstrong. Unfortunately all my clams mysteriously died in the winter. Can't determine why, no pests or anything, they just gave up on life it seems. Either my water is too clean or there was a disease introduced when I added another clam. [emoji22] I'm too scared to add anther clam for a while. I don't grow much chaeto, but I'll add a couple tablespoons of GFO to the reactor ever couple months or so. I try to kee PO4 as low as possible, typically reads 0.00 on my Hanna meter. NO3 I aim for around 2-10 ppm. I was dosing KNO3 before, but recently I reduced my skimmer water level and have not had to dose KNO3 since then. |
We need a FTS....

|
Very nice! So, I mentioned that your wife names your clams. So, my wife names ours Clam-atity Jane lol

I think I'm running out of room...

Tank looks great! I seen you on the other forum posting about the "confetti". Is that it to the right of the red dragon?
|
nice healthy corals.
Sorry about the clams.. I have heard of mass die offs before.. maybe a virus or something.. i guess it'd be hard to get another tang in there.. You have all that yummy salad begging to be grazed.. |
A little bit of actinics fun tonight!

Oh it's an all you can eat tangs buffet in my tank! Ulva won't stop growing on my powerheads. I ordered a starry blenny from my LFS today to help with the algae control. |
Ok... so what is confetti?!?
Some of your colonies are huge!! Love the red/blue contrast on the red planet under blues.. |
The confetti is this little fella to the left of the coral on a frag plug. Still just a baby frag, but the colors are looking better every day.

|
Went back in the thread to figure out how much growth my red planet has had in the past year. Here it was one year ago as a frag

That's impressive growth!
|
Built myself a salt water mixing station over the weekend. No more individually mixing in 5 gallon buckets for this guy!!

Nice upgrade!
|
Nice! That type of convenience is priceless!
|
Oh yeah, I look forward to my next water change when all I have to do is turn a valve to fill up my buckets. In retrospect I would have gone with a more powerful pump and a long long hose to stretch to my tank so I could just open a valve at the tank and fill it up as needed. Next time!
