Nice setup!!
Where did u get that light and how much $ was it?

StunnaShadez 02/24/2007 04:12 AM

thanks for the comment.
well, i bought the tank from drfostersmith.com and the sunpod came with it for just under $300 after s&h. the sunpod alone is i think $220 maybe less and it is the 16.5" one. you will love this light

archndevil 02/24/2007 09:32 AM

I second that this light is just right for the nanocubes!!!!

StunnaShadez 02/24/2007 03:15 PM

i think im starting to love the moonlights more than the halide itself!

StunnaShadez 02/26/2007 12:06 AM

hi ppl, is it necessary to have lights on regularly during cycling?

EDIT--i have the moonlights on only, especially the white LED's

StunnaShadez 02/26/2007 12:33 AM

did a parameter test today and i have basic test kit:
ammonia<0
nitrite<0
nitrate<5
pH<8.0 (need to raise it)
salinity< 1.023
temp< COLD COLD COLD, no heater, no thermometer (need to buy these)

nismo driver 02/26/2007 06:06 AM

lights arent necessary for cycling

StunnaShadez 02/26/2007 09:32 PM

okay thanks. i dont wanna use the halide yet until i get some corals so thats good to know.

StunnaShadez 02/26/2007 10:38 PM

im bored tonight, so heres some pictures with moonlights on:

white LEDs

if there are coralines algaes and mushrooms etc, on the rock wouldnt you want the lighting on for them?

StunnaShadez 02/27/2007 03:10 PM

well, i dont have any livestock. just LR and LS

fishymann 02/27/2007 04:07 PM

coraline grows on LR

StunnaShadez 02/27/2007 05:31 PM

i think i can do without the coraline even though they look nice.

5 days into cycling. guess my tank is doing fairly well since ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates are testing 0 now? which clean up crew would be best in a 12 nano?

kaserpick 02/27/2007 07:21 PM

Coraline is pretty essential; I would put the system on a short photoperiod.

gsechen 02/27/2007 07:42 PM

that is a lot of sand

StunnaShadez 02/27/2007 08:22 PM

dont coraline take up calcium? and does a a tank that just had water and salt added contain calcium? i dont have a test kit for calcium though..

a lot of sand? yeah i know. it took away 2 gallons of water from my tank. post your pictures gsechen! i would like to see them since you have the same tank as i do.

iBryant 02/27/2007 09:16 PM

I gather the large amount of sand will serve as a deep sand bed, right? Arn't these supposed to be good?

I agree that you should start your running your lights. Minnor amounts (given that nitrates and phosphates are in check) of micro algee will also start to grow, diatoms and what not. Other, sand bed animals and bacteria will eat these and help the whole deep sand bed ecosystem start to work.

I little should

iBryant 02/27/2007 09:18 PM

PS. Nice tank, and I grew up in Sac too :) peace

StunnaShadez 02/27/2007 11:35 PM

yes the dsb should help control nitrate levels. well, i should start to turning on the lights. i just didnt want to use the halide until i really get some livstock. but, if its for the best then i guess i have to?
man, i havnt seen anyone here on RC that is currently in sac. guess sac reefers like to have their reef private?

yup! cant wait until i get some corals into the tank. what i really would like is some naked clowns!:eek1: the no stripe ones. but i know it will cost me lots. guess i cant get any then. as of now, i have made up my mind with what im putting in the tank. corals and more corals.:p

since people are saying its better to have lighting on during cycling, im following their advices. i dont have any pix with the MH on so here you go:
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w...xsan/mh_on.jpg

StunnaShadez 03/01/2007 03:57 PM

i read alot of people who say that the pictures really dont capture the true color of MH's. i dont really know what they meant by that, but now im in their position when i say that it REALLY doesnt capture the true color. its more bluer and looks ALOT better in person. for people who have an itch to upgrade from PC to MH, then i say DO IT! really worth it imo

StunnaShadez 03/02/2007 12:16 AM

did a quick water check.
pH<8.2
ammonia<0
nitrite<0
nitrate<5
salinity<1.024
temp<75

yup, i got a heater today. i also got a cheap thermometer. 13 bucks altogether. im going to start to leave the light on for more hrs now everyday, and then the LED's 24/7.
