White fuzz on Monti

I’m starting to see white strings on my Monti. There’s also some algae growing on the underside. It’s in a high light/high flow area. I’m wondering if I should use a tooth brush to get the algae and white strings off of it. It still shows great color and the white growth ring.

If your referring to those white strings on the right they look more like Hydroids than algae IMO. Using a toothbrush along the edges won't hurt anything though. I used to do this all the time when I was fighting Nudibranchs. The coral would get a little scuffed up, but within days it recovered.

How long have they looked like that? Can you turn up the flow?

Toothbrushing them can cause stress but as mentioned they should recover quickly.

I have a power head pointed directly at it so it’s already max flow.

Id try backing off the flow. It may not be happy with max flow and direct. It's been a few days since the original post, is it still looking like the pic?

It’s spreading to other coral! It looks like spider webs. Help!

Do you have lots of small hard tubes extending from the rocks? Those could be Vermetid Snails.

Exactly what they are! They hitchhiked in on a neon cabbage i bought from lfs. I broke apart the rock and epoxied the cabbage back in. Hopefully that will control them.

Glad you got it solved. I just left mine alone when I had thousands, but they never "snotted" all over everything like you've pictured. A stray strand here and there. Now I never see any. Dunno where they went.

Are these tubes the snails? Can they embed themselves in the coral? There are hundred of these tubes on one cabbage frag.
