Some rules of thumb:
One gallon of saturated limewater is equivalent to about 86 ml of the recipe 1 DIY 2-part. Add about 0.52 grams of sodium nitrate per 100 gallons of water to raise the nitrate level by 1.0 ppm. That's about 1 tsp per 500-1000 gallons, very roughly. For potassium nitrate, use about .62 gram per 100 g. Add about 0.76 grams of potassium chloride per 100 gallons of water to raise the potassium level by 1 ppm. Adding 1.25% of the total tank volume with saturated kalk water will boost pH by an unacceptable 0.6 to 0.7 pH units and add about 1.4 dKH. Adding 1/11,000 of the water volume as muriatic acid will drop alkalinity by 1 meq/l (2.8 dKH). That's about 3.3 ml per 10 gallons. Adding 1 ml vinegar per gallon will drop the pH by 0.3 units. Adding 6 ml soda water per gallon will drop the pH by 0.3 units. A 1.4 dKH addition of the recipe 1 DIY two-part boosts pH by about 0.35 pH units. A 1.4 dKH addition of the recipe 2 DIY reduces the pH about 0.06 pH units. 1/2 tsp of borax added to one quart of RO/DI water yields a solution with a pH of about 9.2. 15 mg/gallon of trisodium phosphate yields about 1 ppm phosphate. To make a fairly dilute phosphate supplement using 100% trisodium phosphate: Add 1.88g to 1 liter water. Adding 1 ml per liter of tank water will boost phosphate by 1 mg/L. Adding 1 mL per 100 L of tank water will boost phosphate by 0.01 ppm To make a DIY version of Red Sea NO3:PO4-X, mix: 375 ml 80 proof vodka 500 ml vinegar (5% acetic acid) 125 ml RO/DI water |
