Ever grow sps from just a few polyps
 

I never seem to be able to until recently.
I notice this from a Frag that fell off and was lost in the sand.
Zoomed in pic. It's a little bigger then a large pin head

This 2" x 2" encrusted piece of rock started from what remained after the frag glued to to broke away. It was the size of rice grain about 8 months ago.

I've had montipora come back from assumed death and only anpolyp or two remaining. I can't seem to have that luck with acros though. Generally if it's less than 1/2" I can't seem to keep it alive. Especially new frags. The tiny 1-5 polyp frags (especially like the WD frags everyone is getting) tend to RTN on me over the first night in the tank.

I picked up a few from the LFS that had just a few polyps (less than 10). Some I saved and some I did not.

I will try to find some old pictures...I did a dip where I pretty much killed the corals and then some have managed to come back pretty nicely. If your water parameters are good they will come back. I had a poker star monti turn into a colony from only 3 polyps after an alk overdose.

I had an A. exquisita that developed zanclea hydroids and destroyed the majority of the frag. Fortunately, it started to encrust on the LR before I snapped it off the rock. There was a tiny segment left on the rock with just a few polyps remaining. It's now flourishing and in need of fragging. I'll try to find pix to post.

i was able to grow a red montipora from a 5mm by 5mm broken off piece. just make sure it super glued ! i have a polyp of acro that broken off too, but its taking awhile to grow

Glued them down to the plug and just waited 4.5 months until they got to this size. Ended up giving them out to the club members.

Still a long way to go. The pictures below are from corals that I dipped too long in bayer insect killer. Most of the corals died and all turned white. Some parts of coral died and never came back but there are a few that are holding on and growing. What you see is are shots from today. I killed most of the coral in March so this is the growth that has taken place. They are just starting to get some of their color back.

I would say that's 20 polyps

it got a little easier to see once it encrusted a little

A year later... I know that's a long time but low polyp counts really hurt.
