Pinched mantle

I recently added 3 small 3-5" clams to my aquarium which had my 2 very large existing clams 8"& 12" in a short 2 week period my 8" suddenly looked all curled up and then spawned ( all in the same day) the following day the clam was dead. All 5 clams were squamosa.
A breif description of my aquarium 300gl thriving sps dominated super shallow reef 6'×4'×12'

So I have some questions about this sudden death.

Does pinched mantle transmit from one clam to another?

How long does it normaly take to see signs?

Is a fresh water dip a preventitive solution or only used as a last ditch measure for sick clams?

I totally believe (without too much science) that new clams can make older clams die, but not too fast, IME. Tahitian Maximas used to be know for being clam killers over several months.

PM can take a long time to manifest and it is sometimes treatable. This should not make a clam die right away, usually you see signs and then they get better or worse over a month or so.

Running a lot of activated carbon with a new clam can help a lot. It can help with a current PM issue. I would not do a FW dip unless there is nothing else left to do.

Did you see PM on any of the new clams?

Thanks for reply, The 3 new clams are in top shape and I see no issues with them.
The clam that died was sold to me by another reefer and I was told that the clam had had alot of predation from peskey fish nipping at it for a reasonably long period of time however the clam was always opening up fully ( which was the case once I recived the clam ) I did notice that the clam was gapping but did not consider it bizar. ( under educated On my part?) as my larger clam also gapped and has done so for most part of 1yrs

Here is a pic of the day the clam spawned befor it died

As you can clearly see it is not a clam that you could consider in good shape however the day befor looked fine minus the gapping.
