Do You lLike Painted Rear Glass?? Poll Chart
Yes or No...hmmm. I bought a used tank and actually love the guardsman type Blue panted rear glass.
this a poll to feel other opinions on the glass paint. With a Yes or a No Spelling correction on poll can not be changed...arhhg |
YES
I use an marine epoxy paint. two coats gloss black |
Yes, I prefer it painted. Black is better than blue IMO as it shows the colours of the coral off better.

I 'nd black painted background as well.. though it doesn't matter too much after awhile once enough coralline grows.
Better than seeing any electrical cords in any case of the background colour imo. |

I don't paint the back but I have the lights positioned so they don't light up the rear of the tank. I also have an algae trough above the water that shields the back of the tank so it appears black.

I painted the back of my first tank black, and my current tank came with the back glass tinted black.
I like not seeing all the power cords that are draped down the back of the tank. |
It's a must. ;)
|
Painted mine with black semi gloss rustoleum with a roller, wasn't shure about how the roller would work but worked great no different than what other tanks I sprayed looked just no overspray to deal with
|
painted mine krylon fusion flat black. 2 coats and still have some left in the can.
|
Yes, I think blue works the best but black is also sharp looking.
|
Having done it all 3 ways, nothing, a stick on, and paint. Any and all future tanks will be painted.
|
A big yes here. I'm partial to black. When it's clean, it tends to add a sense of infinite depth to the tank.
To my eye, the black also accentuates the colors of the inhabitants rather then draw your eye to the color of the background. JMHO. |
What I did, was put on some semi reflective window taint. So unless fish room lights are on, its basically a mirror, and I can see through from the fish room. And the fish just don't care about the mirror.
|
I had a black vinyl on 2 faces of bowfront and razored it off. What I get now is reflections of the reef.
|
I agree with most black is the best, makes the test of the colors on the tank pop a lot more to the eye! The only way I would not have a black background would be a tank in-between two rooms that is visible on both sides (of course).

Six year old poll ..... make sure to vote  FWIW, I much prefer a deep, dark blue - more like the distance on the reef.
|
My tank will covered in coralline algae in the back after a few months so it will not matter after a few months.
Simon, other people can use the poll too, not just the original poster. :) Now go answer my question about 2 channels BeanAnimal overflow. :) |
LOL, black window tint vinyl for 6 year old post bump. Lets get this old post more comments than original 11. Just need 3 more.
|
I prefer dark blue. Black is depressing to me.
|
Painted mine black of course that won't last as various corals etc will pretty much cover it in time but I did and do like it as opposed to film or not anything.
|
my 120g in-wall has back 3 panels in black (acrylic). However after the first 3yrs I lost the battle with Coraline and gave up.

My tank will be a peninsula tank so all the plumbing will be at the one end. I definitely will be painting it so none of the plumbing will be seen.
