would high-lipid fish food cause skimmer problems?
I'm new to saltwater, and haven't gotten my tank up and running yet. I've read that oils in the water, from something as simple as placing an un-gloved hand in the tank, can prevent a skimmer from working properly.
I found a recipe for gel fish food that calls for 3% oils (fish oil and vegetable oils. Assuming most of the food is eaten, and only small parts are lost in the tank, I wonder if this would cause problems. It seems that this diet would result in quite a bit of oil in fish excrement, which might cause skimmer problems.
What do you think, should I cut back on the oils, eliminate them entirely, or is this not an issue? thanks.
