I don’t think that elevated Ammonia levels would be a cause, but it won’t help as it is just another stress for the fish to deal with. We are trying to put the fish into the least stressful situation we can so that it can devote all it’s energy to dealing with the injury and/or infection.

When I treated mine I also used Voogle, which is an immune system booster, and unless I hear any feedback to the contrary from the experts in this forum who have far, far more experience than I do, will use it in future whenever I have to treat any fish as a supplementary action.
