My thought is, they look like they are stretching for light. I know some can have long stalks naturally, but they seem to tend to be bigger polyped ones, not like this. So not only are they stretching to get more light to photosynthesize, they aren't getting enough nutrients from then water when nitrates are zero. They are starving.
