I basically do the very same 3 sided free standing skins on my wood frame stands.
It's actually an awesome deal, if you ever really need to get in there and get dirty for whatever reason it just slides away from the stand, decreases the chances of biffing your cabinet work.
It does not even really need to be tight to stand freely, the weight of the wood alone holds it, I actually purposely make an 1/8" gap on each side to make it slide out easily and avoid any swelling or contracting issues, which really I don't see much of an issue to begin w/ since I do always seal everything w/ either stain and or clear coat, or primer and paint depending on the build.
