Tanks that are not cycled properly can result in issues but usually only a small spike. Once I had to qt a pipefish but my qt tank was drained and had been for a while so all I did was fill it up and add cycled bacteria to the filter. The pipefish is fine, doing well, and eating frozen.

Everything was transferred from my old tank and am using live sand which should minimize any cycle. I did this with my last tank and didnt have any issues.
