I did actually I started it higher probably 2-3" from the surface and due to the outflow of the return pump, was seeing vortexes and bubbles getting sucked into the gyre. I was seeing pretty frequent vortexes near the pump and on the far end of the tank was seeing vortexes that would suck a bubble all the way from the surface to nearly the sand bed of the tank and twirl it around back and forth for a while until it got pushed elsewhere. I had to lower the gyre almost 5-6 inches to get this affect to stop.
