i have to agree that there is absolutely no way that is a blue iris. the blue tips are not big enough on all the other shots out there for yours to possibly be the blue iris. AND under complete actinic, any green on the stalk would come out even more and the blue would get washed out. i also have to agree with the coralite structure comment that they are completely different.

Here are some shots, the first is a top down, then a polyp comparison using a photo from "Aqua_SD".
Hopefully this helps some. One thing I did not mention: This frag was a tad beat up when I picked it up, .5cm of the base is completely discolored, this could be why little green is showing. It shows up MUCH better top down! ![]() Mine: ![]() ![]() AquaSD's: ![]() ![]() And now, the release photo (to take out the green):

Leishman posted a couple of pictures of a scoli and another "unreleased" ORA coral a friend of his won at MACNA in the WAMAS forum. Both were taken with flash and neither show any color. Not sure if you guys can see the area without being a member but here's the link.
http://www.wamas.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=32607 The photos are in post #6. |

that top down definitely helps the argument. atleast there is a little green, but the branches are still short looking.

Ya I think time will tell. How long has it been in the tank? Your polyps still look to short. The iris has those long, spidery like, polyps. Yours look short and round, almost like a monti's polyp.

It has been in my tank just over 24 hours. It arrived in rather poor condition. It appears that the base has had necrosis in the past.
The PE has been very small, I will get a picture once it opens up. I suspect the color will change a great deal, after it was ordered from ORA it went into our sponsors greenhouse for a week. The frag is pretty small, as you can tell, the branches have hardly had a chance to grow. |

After seeing this picture of the Icefire Echinata I am starting to think the Blue Iris could be the same coral.

I've seen both corals in person. The icefire has much smaller and more delicate branches. The Blue Iris has much thicker branches closer to a Granulosa, but not as thick. Seeing the colony from ORA, looks like it tables, the icefire grows bushy, hard to say but my guess is that it doesn't table like Blue Iris.

How is everyone's Iris growing? Mine has fully encrusted the plug and is about twice as big than when I got it, both in height and branch thickness. The colors are also much more vidid. Its starting to become my favorite SPS in the tank.

maybe I'll get some pics up soon... I've been eyeing a DSLR and costco just dropped the price...
dangerous! My point and shoot won't focus on it now, because it's permanent home is too far into the tank to focus.
