rough skelton of frame

I decided to skin it in Maple. Cherry looked nice but was out of my price range.
I had to settle for oak doors though.

Here it is skinned. My dads compressor crapped out on me just as I was getting ready to hang the final piece of trim. Set me back a day.

Conditioned

Stained and with first coat of finish on.

I went with cabernet for the stain color. It matches the red maple cabnets I have in throughout the house.

Just another 4 hours before I can put the next coat on. What grit sand paper should I use on polyurethane? After the second coat it will sit for about 15 hours before I can put another coat on.
wow i like it very much!!please can you tell me how did you manage to put the midl maple??

Not sure what you mean. ..If your talking about the main body of it, it is maple plywood. I got too anxious last night and added the second coat of finish prematurly. I got a bunch of runs now =( looks like im doing a bunch of sanding tonight.

Ok, I can't wait any longer to show mine off. Its not finished yet, I still need to make the doors and the canopy but here is what I've gotten done so far.

I used 2xs for the frame as outlined in RocketEngineer's posts and skinned it with select pine. The stain is Minwax Red Oak and the poly is Minwax rub on. The trim work ideas I shamelessly stole from many others on this tread and the medallions on the front of the stand was my wife's idea (she picked the color too [happy wife, happy life]).

i dont know about fancy but for anyone who is skinning a stand i recommend considering what ive done here. simple clean and cost effective. just built this frame and covered it with marine canvas. said and done for under a hundred dollars. all attached by magnets for easy access. check it out tell me what you think. nothing ground breaking but come to think of it i havent seen too many around. going into it i figured i would be unhappy with the end result but fellas i couldnt be happier.

I just finished this stand for my house. It's not typical of the style of furniture I prefer to build (see my homepage if you're interested), but this had to match the surrounding bookshelves in our house.

Oak with a slightly modified American Walnut stain and General Finished poly satin finish.

I wanted my controllers and sensitive electronics away from the water.

Hi uR_a_frag - great job with this concrete panel stand. I've seen some great looking kitchen counter tops in concrete but I've not seen any furniture with concrete skin. Can you show some photos showing the sides? How are the concrete panels attached to the inner frame?

uR_a_frag that is some really nice work there! Never seen concrete on a stand yet but I can imagine it must be dead sexy indeed.

Very much my style. Only change I would make (and this is just me) is I'd use a one-piece door with white acrylic front maybe.

Love it!

This was a 1st for my friend who specializes in concrete work. He usually does countertops, floors, and some other stuff. I had issues with the top panel and the overflow hole. Eventually got that taken care of, but I'll take pics of the side panels. The tank is sitting on a steel stand and then skinned with the concrete. The panels are attached by some L brackets.

Thanks for the compliments lastlight, that white acrylic would look nice. I saw some at Ikea but I didn't really like it. I think it will look better once I put the door handles on. I'm going with some modern stainless steel handles. I actually saw your thread on how you hung your sfiligoi pendant. I'm very interested in the actuated lights.

His is a stand/canopy all together.

Here's my 2.5g i built about 6 weeks back. He and I had similar design goals and execution.

It hides the back chambers, holds all the electrical stuff aside from 2 power cords and a timer

Larry, from one wood worker to another.... that is some amazing work. I had to go back to look at the picture again because I didn't even notice the tank on top...

it goes in through the top, the top panel opens up.

a standard 10 gal fits like a glove inside. it JUST barely slides down in there

yea what did you cut the flutes with. I have tried with a plunge router and a fence with no lock. I need a router table i guess.

router table would make it easier but it can be done like you suggest, it just takes some planning and do multiple passes adjusting the depth until you get the result you want.

I use a router table set up a long fence with stops well off each end of the table to get the ends of the flutes even. It works very well.
