It's in place and looks great!! Although I noticed that there are slight gaps b/t the tank and stand on each end. Not sure if the metal will deflect a little in the center when filled or if I should put a piece of plywood in place first etc. Any thoughts and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I decided to push it to the right b/c it seemed pointless to have in centered and only have 30" on each side. Especially since one side is completely closed off. The builder came over to get measurements for the floor to ceiling cabinetry that will skin the frame.

I knew you wouldn't be pleased, Mike. I have listed the tank on craigslist and will start over

Was reading that I should put plywood b/t the tank and stand and then shim b/t the stand and ply.

That's horrible!!! I've been working on getting my hands on a rootbeer float. KafudaMike mentioned having a rasberry float the other day and man did I get some cravings. I'm gonna get me one by the weekend.

Brandon, I don't know much about larger tanks, but would ply with some of the insulation board/foam work at all? The board being a little bit thicker than what most typically use under smaller tanks with the larger weight of your tank.

I have been told foam is a no no under a rimmed tank. I like the idea of both though.

All joking aside or just to the back of the line, the thing that this has going is location.
No matter where you are in that part of the house you get to enjoy it. Too often people have spectacular systems that are somewhere that the owner has to go see. If it is too far away and life changes the system suffers and we all know that can mean a dry tank. |

Thanks, Mike. I couldn't agree more. That was the goal with the house design and with the choice to go penninsula. I literally chose that house b/c when I walked into another he was building with the same plan, I immediately knew that was the perfect tank location. Then I just told to add a 3 car garage with room for lift
I really had a hard time deciding whether to center the tank in b/t the columns or push it up to the one side but I think this is the best location for keeping the house open and for the best views. And once it's all built in floor to ceiling, it will look like that was the original plan. I have two things I need to address before water. One is the 4 holes in the bottom. 2 on each end from the original corner overflows. I was going to use bulkheads and plugs but the threads on the bulkheads barely touch the metal frame below. So I am going to silicone glass to the top and bottom instead. The other are the 1/16" gaps on each side. My builder is bringing me a piece of ply and foam insulation cut to size. I am liking Kyle's idea of foam then ply then tank and if need be, I can still try and shim. Unless anyone can tell me why that may be a bad idea or if there is a better one.

My only regret is I didn't post on Tuesday. That would have been fun.
Do you have a rock plan and stock list on excel yet? |

The rock plan is 2 islands like my usual. But that's about it. Really haven't started working on stock list either. I just know I want another Majestic Angel.
After reading some more on here, it seems the foam really is a no beuno so my only option is 3/4 cabinet grade ply and shims. So nervous about a tank this size.

The frame builder just sent me a message when I asked him if it would deflect enough in the middle to bring it level.
And just a background, he is an industrial welder that now overseas pipe welding for chemical companies. The welds/specs have to be critically precise and are all x=ray'd etc. Yes on the deflection. The intent is to have positive camber in the middle to achieve flatness when loaded. I worked my structural engineer (friend, too) on what we could to to mitigate the deflection.

Thanks, Maggie. It's my favorite part of the house. It's character grade 3 1/4" Hickory site finished. I couldn't even get a sample b/c it's an odd flooring. Most people actually don't want it b/c there are lots of knots, color variations and small length boards. Which made it only a little bit more expensive than 2 3/4" standard oak.

This is going to be an awesome build. That is the exact same tank size I plan to have when I am able to upgrade. Maybe in a few years, but for now I will enjoy yours!

I have heard that a lot lately If you like wood, you love it. If you aren't a fan, it probably makes you want to puke. I would imagine an OCD person would have a panic attack in there too.
