Add a diamond goby or fighting conch if the brown sand bothers you. I too like to keep my tank as simple as possible, just LR and a skimmer in a baffle-Less sump. I occasionally run carbon of GFO but only as nessecary.

Hows your chaeto growth? How often do you have to prune?

Ok so here’s my plan after milling all this over.
I’m going to slowly crank down the vinegar dosing. Right now I’m going at 5mls every 2 hours which is roughly 60mls a day. I’m going to start turning it down about 5mls a day until it’s off, which would be about 12 days or can I do it faster?. Then I’m going to just leave my GFO in until it starts exhausting. I changed it last week so I’ll give it a good month and take it off line. Any other ideas?

Slow. Very slow.
I’ve got some other macro algae in the fuge that grows at a snails pace too. I’d imagine it’s because I’m stripping the system so much.

Ok so I figured I would update this thread.
So far, kalk is gone Vinegar dosing is down to 3mls/hr GFO is still running GAC is still running 75w UV is running Added a large block of marine pure Changed RO membrane, carbon blocks, and sed filter Sed filter is 5 micron, first carbon block is 1 micron, second carbon block is .5 micron Currently getting 0 out of the RO before the DI! Which is awesome Last week I did a large water change because I totally emptied my sump. I did this so I could shop vac out all the detritus that was in my sump. I plan to wean the vinegar off. Then dump the GFO. So far after all these here’s what I have in way of results: The water was crystal clear after the big water change. Today exactly 7 days later it’s starting to get cloudy again, so I cranked the vinegar from 3/hr to 2/hr. I’m going to skip water change today since I did nearly 50% last week. Parameter wise here’s my results from today: Alk: 8.0, which is down a tad but I expected a drop with the kalk offline Calcium 405, again an expected drop Po4: 0.4ppb which is exactly the same as it has been Nitrates: god I hate these tests...looks like 20? Hard to say. I need a better kit. Regardless it’s no more than 20 and no less than 10.

I guess every tank is different. I'm only at the 2 month mark for switching to a bigger tank and it needs kalk. In 3 days I go from 8.4KH 430 cal to 7.8KH 415 cal. I tried 1/2 tsp per gallon and it was still dropping so I upped it to 1 tsp per gallon. I'll test in a few days since I tested today. I don't have a huge coral load, only 4 lps, shrooms a toadstool and a couple zoa polyps. Plus my coraline is growing like mad. My torch is pretty big, about 10 heads and another that I fragged off of that one that is around 4 or 5 now. Before I started the kalk I tried keeping up with water changes but prams kept dropping.
