Quarantine anything wet?

I currently keep a fish only quarantine tank and an invert only quarantine tank. I quarantine all my CUC for at least a month and want to buy some Chaeto and pods to restock my refugium. I have lately being hearing the phrase "quarantine anything wet." Who quarantines Chaeto and/or pods? I haven't in the past, but I am thinking about doing so now. I am going to try some of the "clean" Chaeto from the Algae Barn to reduce pest introduction and will probably get my pods from them also. I am thinking about doing a month QT for them also.

Yes you hear of nuisance strains of phototrophs accompanying filtration algae bought from stores, so quarantine may keep you out of trouble.
I reckon a month quarantine for the chaeto would be plenty.
I'd do everything I could to make the chaeto grow so that any other nuisance phototroph will show its ugly face too.

When I was getting a new chaeto, I dipped it in RODI for about 3 minutes. It will start popping and probably hurt some of the cells, but it will survive.

The positive side of the above was that many hitchhikers got stunned and fell off. Not all of them died during the quick dip, but they were much easier to rinse off.

Flat worms love living on chaeto, I dip it along with everything before I goes in my tank...only thing I don’t dip, are fish and invertebrates and the such...like walking dendro, it’ll kill the worm living inside...you don’t need to dip copepods either, just put them in a small white container as you acclimate them, and you can usually see if there’s any foreign pests on the white bottom of the bucket, if there are any. You can stir the water and all the small debris will accumulate in the center and the pods will crawl out to the outer edge where you can collect them with a turkey baster.

It’s so much easier to avoid getting parasites than getting rid of them!

Sounds like you don't quarantine your pods? I guess I was wondering if anyone does and how they get them into their display tank after quarantine since a lot of pods are so small you can barely see them.

I’ve never quarantined pods, and I’ve never had any issues from it...when I dip corals I buy, sometimes pods come off of them. I carefully collect them with a turkey baster, with as little water from the contaminated dip water, and then put them in a separate container, that has tank water in it. After they swim around a little, I collect them again trying to get just the pod, and nothing but the smallest amount of water as possible. I then hold the baster vertical, and the copepod floats down to the tip. I then drop them into my refugium, but I’d feel safe putting it directly into the tank...it’s not 100% safe, but I’ve never had an issue...like I said earlier, my main concern with corals and collecting pods, is getting flat worms. I haven’t had ick in over 6 years.

That's cool. I had some Ich a few years ago which I believe came in with some non quarantined live rubble with inverts, but have been pest free for about 3 years now. I have been spooked ever since because that was the first time in over 12 years that Ich got into my tank via something other than an infected fish; and, I am at that stage where I want to restock my CUC, Chaeto, and Pods.
