Sorry for the lack of updates, but I've been super busy this summer and finally feel I might actually have everything done (for now)!
As proof, here is what I've done since my last update, mostly non-fish stuff so you understand where all my time has gone: First my Shark Dive... Backyard: Shed

Re-landscaping
Alright, so we did some work in the basement as well, got rid of the old furniture and went with a bigger screen. I also built a pendant to mount the LEDs in, here are some pics from tonight....

Looks incredible! I like the idea of the LEDs. Sounds like someone is finally making a fairl affordable fixture.
What did you build the canopy out of? Thanks for the updates!

Built the canopy out of poplar. Thanks! Yeah, it's been hit/miss some corals have really responded well to the LED's, others have not done so well. The LED's are so bright and over the summer my tank was neglected and lost a few due to too much light. I've been cutting back the light cycle, but now that I have the pendant finished I'm able to raise them up as well. Hopefully things will start to darken back up, a number of corals are really lightened in color. Thanks!

If you're considering replacing the current LED fixture, why not consider making one? Lots of us have made LED fixtures that blow all of the premade ones out of the water as far as brightness, efficiency and ability to control. Not to mention they're a LOT less expensive up front.
With a tank that long, if you DIY an LED fixture controlled by an arduino, I can really picture how much fun you could have with effects like a cloud rolling over, or sunrise to sunset one end to the other, or a really smooth transition from one part of the tank being deeper blue than another etc etc... Hopefully something to think about.. |

Would be sweet, but a lot of work to build a 12' version...

Could be thought of as ~3x the same 4-foot fixture, if you built it like the great majority of us, you would end up using ~300 or maybe fewer LEDs, you could build it in an afternoon I beleive. It would take a little while longer if you made it arduino-controlled.
