MikeD's Elos Sys 160 - Breaking the 100 gal barrier!
I used to have a 92 corner that was sold due to my wife and I moving. Now here I am finally breaking the 100 gallon barrier with this 5.25 foot wide x 2ft x 2ft deep tank! Setup has just begun and boy is it fun!!! Here are a few of this bad boy 'rollin' in....
'On the truck' The delivery guy had to take out about 50 boxes to get to my tank in the middle. Whoever packed his truck didn't do it according to his delivery route that day! In the garage Goodbye Crate!! Almost there! Tank is actually in my family room thanks to a few CMAS (Chicago) members! More pics to come....

I have wondered how the Elos systems would look and work. Keep up the updates. Thanks!

Congrats on the Elos setup. I shall live vicariously through you for the next few years!! The craftsmanship of those systems are mind blowing; I'm sure they prefer the term "artisan" to "craftsman".

Thanks Old Salty! I've been hanging out in the elos forum forever now it seems. The tank fits nicely on the 'tank wall' and I'm currently filling it up with RO/DI at 0 TDS. It'll be about a day before I can start anything though I guess...

Pics are a requirement of Elos ownership; it says so in the instructions (they're written in Italian, so don't worry about reading them). Funny how those systems give you sticker shock at first, but when I add up all the money I've spent so far, Elos would have probably saved me money.

A few more details: Electrical
A local reefer in our CMAS club is an electrician and was a big help. The room that the tank is in is our family room and has our home entertainment system. So my tank would be competing with this: That and this tank would just mean frequent trips to the circuit breaker! On the tank wall just behind the tank is a standard outlet with two plugs (your typical wall outlet). Based on many recommendations, a new circuit should be dedicated to the tank. In this case, since we were installing one, we may as well install two! So we ran a new circuit to each of the plug outlets! So each one is on a 20A breaker. Salt Oceanic for now - perhaps once I get passed this batch I have, Tropic Marin. Substrate 2x20lb bags of Seachem Tidal 'Pearl Beach' and 1x20lb bag of CORALINE Pink Reef Sand (I was going to use two but 1 looked good enough) I also used a couple of cups of Caribsea crushed coral. The substrate is just for 'looks' - I don't want anything too deep nor do I like bare bottom. My sandbed is about 1/2"-1" depending on where in the tank you're looking. Bags lined up ready to rinse - I actually returned 1 bag of the coraline stuff. Rinsing the tidal 'Pearl Beach' out in my driveway. Here's what coraline pink reef sand looks up close. It's a great accent.

The hole in the side on the left barn door there is for the controller (Elos Biotopus II).
Here are some pics of the stand with the controller in place.

I have one vortech pump in there now as my 'big' circulation pump. Anyone have multiple pumps like this? I like them because there are no wires in the tank so it looks really clean.

Everyone seems to love it as not many people actually have that done - (Hack up their stand!). Even I just had the controller mounted in the stand. I thought this would make the tank not only look good, but I could easily see what's going on with it by glancing at the door.

I really like the flush mounted controller as well... I havent finished the doors on my stand yet, so I may have to try that out! Great tank, after all the time I spent building my stand/canopy, I kind of wish I'd just invested in one of these! Look forward to seeing it develop.

Here's the multi chambered sump. The main chamber has the drain from the tank, the skimmer, and the return pump. Output from the skimmer goes into the filter sock you see in the first chamber to the right, and then there is another chamber next to it which is high flow. The chamber next to that is a low flow chamber. The large chamber on the left side of the sump is for RODI water for automatic top offs. More pix to come!

I couldn't help but notice (and then slightly chuckle at it), but that is the very first filter sock in the world that I have seen with a name tag sewn into it. Designer diapers for your fish.... this hobby has gone insane!!! Alas, you purchased an Elos setup you lucky bas___d!! It just becomes more and more apparent that they have paid attention to every single detail.

Yeah no kidding! I just got the movement kit in today and it slid in like nobody's business!! The tank is just seemless and clean looking! The most obtrusive thing in the tank is the locline the comes off of returns!

Very nice and clean. The setup looks so clean and everything fits nicely. Its nice to buy everything at once at least you pay up front but you have a tank that has everything you need to maintain a well stocked tank.
