Thors 450 Build Thread!!!!!!!

I started with a 90 and then went to a 220. I bought a few tangs from a fellow reefer for the 220 and things just took off. After a couple years with the 220 I wanted out. I just couldn't bare the thought of getting rid of my prized Orange Shoulder Tang. So I went out and bought the 450. That is where this story begins.

Here is the stand done with the several coats of killz to protect it.

I bought this 230 gallon tank from someone to build my sump/Refugium out of. It worked out great, being its only 5 feet long. Tangers from this board and I in the pic are putting the walls into place in the tank.

Tangers here making some adjustments to the sump/ref

Walls completely into place.

Stand with sump slid into place. We actually had to lift the stand up to place the sump under it.

Tank on Stand!!!

You can see the 220 gallon next to the 450. We had to empty the 220 and move it across the room. I was putting the 450 in the place of the 220, but wanted the tank to cycle. Stressful to say the least. Tough catching the fish I have they are pretty big. We learned the best way to move big fish was to trap them in corners and catch them with buckets. Works out great!!!

Sump and some plumbing into place.

Oceans Motions setup with plumbing. Mounted real nice.

This is going to be a great build. Details on your current fish (how many and sizes) Any pictures of them in your 220?

Tank cycling through with my chromis, Tangers joked they probably think they are back in the ocean. They were the only fish in there for quite awhile.

This was my original skimmer Precision Marine XL 2. I sold it thinking the tank was going down with the thought of moving. Later sold it and still to this day I am fighting with FedEx because they destoyed it in shipping!!!!!

Jumping ahead here is the tangs finally in their home.

The new skimmer after the old one was sold. Reeflo 250 Pro Kit was put into place. The placement of the stand worked out great. You can partly see my little fish room that is behind the tank.

Newer pics with a lot better camera.

a shot of the stand completed!!!!! Thanks again to my employee Tangers!!!

WOW, you weren't kidding about loving Tangs...those Naso's are huge and incredibly beautiful. Were they all in your 220g? I have subscribed as I know this is going to be a very nice build thread. Is this going to be a reef tank or FOWLR? Any details on your English Bulldog? I also love English Bulldogs and was so close to getting a pup, but after taking into consideration the fact that my house is two stories and I know that it would have a hard time going up stairs, I decided otherwise : (
Lastly, have you thought of keeping an Achilles or Powder BLue tang? I have never been successful with Powder Blues but currently have an Achilles (5-6 inches) that's doing VERY well with my other 3 tangs in my 225g (Purple, Yellow and Yellow Belly Blue tang).

Very nice healthly looking fish, LOVE that Orange Shoulder. Is this FOWLR or will you be adding corals?

Tangwich-Love my bulldogs. I have a boy and a girl and they are the greatest dogs in the world to me. I have been lucky(knock on wood) they have both been very healthy no problems. I want another one, but the girlfriend has enough trouble controlling the two when I am not there!!! Thats awesome to be able to keep an achilles!! They are tough fish to get established. Never thought of keeping a PBT or achilles with my tang load. Was not sure if they could handle what my red sea would hand down. She is a whopping 12" and is very tough on new fish.

Thanks Homeslizzice!!!!

Masharp1126- I used to have a ton of zoos till the regal declared war on them!!! Now I have quite a few different mushrooms and couple leathers that are starting to take off. I will continue to add mushrooms here or there. Thanks for the orange shoulder comment she is by far and away my favorite fish. She actually made the tang slideshow a couple months ago on ReefSlides.

Thanks ricks. I have never had any problems with the sump overflowing even with all the power outages we have here in florida. I guess the size of the sump helps.
Yeah tangs are very entertaining to say the least!

Great work. Good thing you have the Reeflo 250 on that tank with those gorgeous large tangs. Your orange shoulder alone makes the upgrade worth it.

Here's a good question that no one has asked...what do you feed and how much food do you go through on a daily or monthly basis? also, any vitamins or supplements?

Daily schedule
Mornings 3 full sheets of nori along with 2 large leafs of Romaine Lettuce.
Early evening I have frozen mixture of shrimp, mysis, formula 1 and 2. Krill, garlic selcon and zoe. I premake it once every couple months. This way when I come home I just defrost the food on RO/DI water and in it goes. I also throw in two more large leafs of romaine.
Tangs should be fed often. In the ocean they are grazers and eat all day long. A lot like cows. So when we put them in the home aquarium and feed less often they become more aggressive and territorial towards food. HTH.
thanks again tangwich!
