Harry's Custom Reef Tanks...
Hey Everyone,
Teasers - - - - - - - My two current reef tanks deserve a thread of their own! I am a senior at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA. I have been "reefing" for 10 years, starting out with a 55 gallon UniQuarium from a LFS that housed fish only. My first reef tank came a few years later and was a mixed 29 gallon Jaubert "plenum" style reef aquarium. Next was a 25 gallon octagonal aquarium that featured rare blue, red, purple, and green carpet anemones and even a super rare rose bubble anemone before they discovered the cheap ones from China =) Here is the 29 gallon tank with a 5 inch sand bed (covered in wood paper to disguise): Here is the "anemone" tank: Next are my two nano reefs that I maintained at college which are no longer running.... 12 gallon UniQuarium with AquaC Remora skimmer, carbon, bioballs, and a 96watt Compact Flourescent Bulb: Fall 2003- Red carpet was with me for 3 years, but died of a bacterial infection when I introduced a sick green carpet Right before the take down in Summer 2006 Last edited by Quatro; 01/23/2007 at 05:14 PM. |

Next is my 5.5 gallon Clear for Life tank which started my Acan craze!!!:
Beginning - Canister filter with carbon, denitrate, and phosban, 32 watt CF light: After taking the tank home during the Summer of 2006, I decided to set up a bigger tank and dedicate this one to my ricordeas, hence the last FTS during Summer 2006: Unfortunately, I recieved a colony of ricordeas that had died, and stupidly, I introduced them into the aquarium, which cause a tank crash, and killed nearly everything |

After my 5.5 crashed, I set up this custom 12 gallon reef:
15"x15"x12" tank, Tunze ReefPack200 (9002 skimmer and filter), Aqua Medic 70 watt HQI with 70 watt Ushio 20k: |

Here it is-
My custom 3 sided, peninsula style, 20 gallon tank. Made my SoCalCreations in the beginning of Summer 2006. Here is a pic during construction: 24"Lx16"Wx12"H- Equipment: 20 gallon custom tank - 24x16x12 Tunze 6025 powerhead Light - 4x24 watt T5 HO Tek fixture (2xB+,1xSA,1xAB) 8 gallon sump Mag 5 return ATI BubbleMaster 200 Chaeto ROWAphos in phosban reactor Carbon in second phosban reactor Dual returns next to external overflow Chiller - Aqua-Euro 1/10th HP chiller running inline with Mag 5 return Supplements: Salifert "All in One" - 15mL/week Salifert "Magnesium" - 15mL/week K-Z Potassium, Strontium - just started Lugols Iodine - 1 drop/week hW SeaSalt for make up water - 5 gallons a week Livestock: Fish- 2x Hawaiian Resplendent pygmy angels 1x Ocellaris clown 1x Percula clown Corals- 30x Ricordea Florida 5x Ricordea Yuma 3x Carribbean mushroom 1x LE Green Polyped Leather 1x Cepitularia 3x Xenia 1x Green A. millepora 1x LE M. danae "sunset" 1x LE M. danae "superman" 1x LE M. danae "rainbow" 1x Leng Sy cap 1x Puple rim cap 1x M. danae "orange" from Mike @ thecaptivereef 4x LE Cyphastrea 2x Challice 1x LE Pink Watermelon challice 1x Green Catspaw acro 50 or so Acanthastrea Lordhowensis (hundreds of polyps) 1x Acanthastrea echinata 10 or so Micromussas Clean up crew of snails, urchins, sand-turners Initially, the tank was set up with an 8 gallon sump and housed a Euro-Reef 5-2. This later was sold and switched out to an ATI Bubble Master 200. Chateo grows in the sump as well, and there are two phosban reactors, one holding RowaPhos and the other containing Carbon. A mag 5 acts as the return via 2 1" bulkheads drilled in the "back". The overflow is external. Lighting consists of 4-24 watt T5 HO bulbs in a Tek fixture, two BluePluses, one UVL Super Actinic and one AquaBlue. Recently, a Tunze NanoStream 6025 was added for additional flow. Feeding is flakes twice a day and frozen brine or mysis every evening and target feeding of the acans/dendros/balanos every few days. Supplements consist of 15mL per week of Salifert's "All in One" and magnesium. 1mL K-Z Potassium and Strontium and one drop of Lugol's Iodine weekly. I do a 20% water change (5 gallons) using hW salt. I've been collecting acans and micros for a long time, and ricordeas have always been one of my favorites. I've always wanted a pair of resplendent pygmy angels, but Frank at RCT hasn't had any for a long time, so when the hybrids came out (resplendens x fisheri) I knew I had to have a pair. I've had the clowns for a long time as well. Pictures: |

Thanks for the complements Lam and others, much appreciated!
2OceanLovers, The angels will most likely grow to 2-3 inches, however no one knows for sure because these fish have never been produced before. The C. resplendens grow to nearly 3 inches and the C. fisheri grow to about 2.5 inches. Check out this thread for more info... http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...hreadid=982928 |

LOL Lam! I'll think about it. The BM200 is grossly oversized for my tank.
I'll tell you one thing, the ATI Bubble Master series skimmers make your tank's water sparkle. It just looks so fresh and clean, never got that from my old Euro-Reef. Hmmm, I've got a H&S calc reactor that I've been itching to hook up, but the BM200 takes up all the room in the sump, maybe a downgrade to a BM150 is in order. I'll let you know....... |
