This is the supplement they sell for freshwater aquariums? It's probably fine, although I'd ask them whether they think it's okay for saltwater systems.

Hmm, I wouldn't use it, then, personally, but it might be fine.

You may have found another source for Calcium Chloride.

What is the price of this product you are using. /

One thing nice about Tetra is that they use the Limestone Method for CaCl2, so theirs is quite pure when compared to DOW or others. I have talked to their chief chemist. A call to Tetra will get you a location to buy their CaCl2.

http://www.tetrachemicals.com/

We had a long thread on it on the Bromide issue

Bromide Ok

So that applies to all their calcium chloride products? I was concerned about supplies for pools.

Their Pool grade, so to speak, is more pure than Dow Flake. It has 50 ppm other impurities and Dow is 85. Their Food grade or Express are the best.

Yes is what most will be using and some are already using instead of Dow Flake. which is or will be loaded with Bromide. I believe Sanjay is using it on his 500 gal home tank and the Penn State 500 gal reef tank

Not yet, still finishing off the Dow flake bags that I bought last winter.

But the next bags I buy will be from Tetra Chemicals.

Sorry for taking so long to get back...I was off for the weekend.

I paid 36.99 from Pinch a Penny pool store. It's a chain store down here in South Alabama but don't know their range.

This page shows a number of different Calcium Chloride products:
http://www.chembuyersguide.com/partners/tetra.html

Which one is the one that we should be using?

I'll be asking them where to get the product in Massachusetts.

FCC FOOD GRADE - FOOD GRADE ANHYDROUS CALCIUM CHLORIDE MINI-PELLETS, 94% - 97%

CaCl2

or

TETRA 80â„¢ HP - CALCIUM CHLORIDE PELLETS HIGH PURITY, DIHYDRATE 77% - 82% . This one is more pure but has a lower % of CaCl2 because it has ~ 15- ~ 20 % water. Dihydrate means two water molecules. But these may be to big a pellet and would need to be ground up.

CaCl2:2H2O

Harvey Salt is where I bought my Dow a couple years ago.

I'm interested in finding some place to buy the Tetra FCC Food grades stuff somewhere nearby.

Has anybody got their hands on it yet? It should be a step up from the old Dow product - especially since their new snowmelt product is expected to be unsuitable for reef use.

There is none in Tetra according to assay sheets and my talk with their chemist. They use a different process called the Limestone Method.
