Jim's 180 build
I've been waiting years for this thread!!!
Okay, here's the deal. All the tank threads in this forum have given me so much inspiration over the years, that I set a goal to one day add my little piece to this forum! I want to thank all the reef-ballers out there for being so innovative, and really pushing this hobby to new levels! Last Friday I ordered the tank from a local shop (Your Reef) who are having it built by a company called Visio (no, not the LT's favorite TV ), and it should be coming up in about 3-5 weeks from L.A. 72"x24"x24" Starfire front Center overflow Black silicone Diamond polished Split bracing up top across the middle (they wouldn't do euro) My plans for stocking are still a little up in the air. I want to do a mixed reef, with some zo's, clams, rics and some acans. Maybe sps down the line. But my main thing is that I want lots of "life" in the tank, so I will also have some tangs anthias and wrasses because I love fish so much. This will be a VERY modest build thread considering the company!! I don't have a huge budget, but I have enough to build a great system, that will hopefully satisfy my unsatisfiable fixation with fish tanks. I waited until I had some progress to show before I started my thread. Today I worked on my canopy with the help of a fellow club member. After few bad cuts and another trip to HD, I got it right. Thanks for the help bro! Then Fed-Ex stopped by and dropped off my LA mini's I was stoked....

I didn't get to finish it tonight, and tomorrow, I'm not sure how much I will get done.
Here it is with most of the trim. More to come guys! Thanks for looking

Yup. Went up and got a new sheet of plywood.
Yeah, I copied mark's trim layout. I like his a lot more though. The pain square trim looks much better IMO. But becasuse I'm gonna use the stand I build last year, I'm going to make the canopy match the best I can. Yeah when the Fed-Ex guy showed up I was surprised!! I didn't expect them them until Monday Worked our reeeaal Niiice

I'm sure there will be plenty of t-boning going on. No worries bro! Quick update: I didn't realize last week that today was Easter, and just figured it out last night. I'm in my own little world over here..... Anyways, I called HD but it seems like they're closed today, so not much I can do. I painted the inside of the canopy white, and I'm waiting for it to dry before I can do a second coat. Other than that, I'll get some trim next week, and finish up the outside. The move onto to staining I'll post some pics tonight.

I called this morning, and got the machine. Said they were closed, but not because of Easter. I'll try back....

Hahaha
Yes, t-bone, I have thought quite a bit about what equipment I will run. Lighting: LA mini's with XM 250 watt 20k's run on my current Hamilton M58 Reactors: (2) TLF phosban reactors Geo reactor 618 or Aqua C for calcium (down the road) Skimmer: Right now, I'm gonna run my RC180 euroreef, but as soon as the ATB externals hit the market, I'll up grade. Temp: Ranco DS on ebo jager's Top-off: Tunze osmolator No chiller for now Flow: 2 tunze 6100's and maybe another 6000/6101 or 6055's (down the line) + Tunze 7095 Return: Pan World 100x-px Prolly be some changes, and upgrades as I go, but this is what I got so far. I decided this morning that I didn't like the trim, so I pulled it off and got some new stuff. Paited the inside w/2 coats now I gotts clean it a bit, sand it a bit the stain it. More pics:

Thanks Mark!
I think I'm gonna drill some more holes today or tomorrow for venting and cords. I'm still out on whether I should mount 2 more fans up on the top-rear of the canopy. What do you think??

I might add two 3' fans to suck the air out. If you order, lmk as I will piggy back. I spent 4 hour rescaping and regluing last night. I need to let my tank stabilize before I kill everything
Are you going to add a center trim piece to break up th elinear distance. I ended up doing it and I likes it a lot better. I have pictures of both before and after if you that will help.

I was thinking about adding a center piece, but I'm not sure. The problem is that the trim is not two sided. One end is thicker than the other. If I put it down the middle, I'd need to find a new trim piece.
If I order up the fans, I'll let you know for sure, but I was going to mount them for sucking air out too. Two on the sides for drawing in new air, and two up top for sucking it out. Are those pics in your thread?

Yes, the pics should be there, if not they are on hd.
I understand about the trim. I guess I overlooked that. I am down for two 3" fans to draw air out as you said. I am just trying to get everything dialed in so I don't lose anything else
