April 8th Meeting at Farmington Marriot with NEC!!!

As mentioned The Notheast Council of Aquarium Societies is having their annual convention in Farmington, CT at the Marriott right off Interstate 84 April 7-9 (Friday through Sunday).

WE ARE MEETING ON SATURDAY APRIL 8th ONLY - but you are welcome to register for the entire NEC conference if you're interested.

http://northeastcouncil.org/html/schedule2006.doc

They graciously offered us a free room to meet in - how could we resist at that price?!?

So our "free" meeting is from Saturday April 8th from 3PM until 5 PM. I'll be giving a slide show of my "180 Gallon Reef At Work" project in addition to my DIY with Portland Cement frag plug making demo.

I believe that we will be doing a fragging demo with donations to our club raffle.

We're also purchasing live stock and dry goods to make the raffle great.

We are going to have an official "frag & equipment swap" at this meeting too - look for the official swap thread!

BUT HERE'S THE BEST PART - for $28 you can attend two different reef related seminars - at 10:45 AM until 12:00 PM Larry Jackson is speaking on the topic of "Reefs and Reef Keeping" and from 1:15 PM until 2:30PM Bob Goemans will speak on "Reef Aquariums - Do It Right the First Time."

I will DEFINITELY be attending both seminars!!!

Keep an eye out for more details and check our website for the entire schedule of the NEC Conference if you're interested in freshwater aquariums too.

Sweet! I'm assuming that we have to pay admittance fees? Or is that free, as implied by "free?"

I still think that NEC giving us a room, paying for the big name speakers, and advertising our club is worth us supporting them by paying the $28 - please consider doing so - aside from learning from the best, you're supporting MANY aquarium societies from the Northeast (CT, VT, MA, NY, NJ, NH, RI).

Does the $28 also get us in to see speakers such as Dr. Sallie Boggs or just Larry Jackson & Bob Goemans?

To the best of my knowledge $28 is the "Saturday Only" registration which would allow you to see all the Saturday speakers.

She's speaking during my presentation, but I won't be offended if you select her over me

Check out their site for more info:

Rich,

Is pre-registration required for the seminars, or can we pay day of?

Thanks,

Mike

You can do both - I'm looking into "sell out" issues - I recommend pre-paying to guarantee a spot. I'll post what I learn tomorrow.

Thanks Rich. Do you have a build thread for your 180g, or are you saving the drama for your presentation?

Mike

There is no 180 build thread - the drama will be released to the general public at the Farmington Marriott.

If we can't make it to the seminars, do we still have to pay $38 to get in to the ctars meeting? a member that driving with me and I can't make it to the place till like 2:30 PM. So we won't be able to hear or see the seminars. Is there a cost to get into the show? thanks for any info. Bob
