Paul's 40 Gallon Reef

As some of you may know I have had a 38 gallon tank up for a few years now and jumped on a 40 breeder during the $1 per gallon sale at Petco. I have then since drilled the tank, built the stand, plumbed and transferred everything from my 38 to the 40 breeder for the big increase in footprint and lack of scratches/wear. It is still a work in progress with the rock scaping and coral placement. Here are some photos of the build and where I am at now. (unfortunately most of these photos are low quality because my cell phone is what was handy. I will start taking better photos with my camera soon!)

Got the 40 rescaped today! Getting rid of the big rock covered in reverse gorilla nipples as well as plenty of the green bay packer zoas. Removed and relocated some coral. Here is the the look of the tank. Everything is still upset at me and the water is a little cloudy from moving everything around.

Here are the new additions to the tank. Traded some coral that took up space for it all. Got the goby & acro a few days ago & got the blasto today.

Wow love 40 breeders. Thats gonna be my first sw build eventually. What over flow did u use? Gl*******s or a custome one? I cant tell from the pic but does it go all the way down to the bottom of the tank?

Yea they have a nice footprint for a reef tank. I ordered mine of eBay from a seller by the name of texasholeyrocks I believe. Alot cheaper and very high quality cast acrylic. It dose not go all the way to the bottom. The holes are drilled in the back of the tank.

At first I was wondering why upgrade for only 2 gallons but then I saw the differences between the tanks. The 40 is looking great, really like what you did for the aquascape! I'm not too familiar with LPS, what's that coral you have towards the middle on the sand with the orange rim?

It's a fat Lobophyllia. Been waiting on it to split for a while now! Yea that extra 2 gallons gave me an extra 6" from front to back and thanks! I'm uploading a little video of the tank now.

I actually combined two 29 gallon bio-cubes late last night into a 40 breeder and still waiting for the dust to settle. Everything so far looks like it made it although a bit stressed from the drive.

Quick question if you don't mind. What substrate did you use and flow?

Sounds like fun! I used caribsea flamingo reef.

For flow I have 3 Hydor koralia's on the Hydor smart wave controller. 2 alternate and the lowest flow lowest flow one is always on aimed towards the return loc line
They are all different. I believe I have a 750, 900, & 1050. I could be wrong but thats pretty close. Only reason I have odd pumps is because I got 2 used at a great price.
