it will have affect on the ones that pass thru the UV. But that is such a small number that its not a concern...youll have pods EVERYWHERE in your tank. so what does get killed by a UV is minimal at best...

It's impact on the pods that pass through it will greatly depend on the flow through the UV. Higher flow will have less impact on pods than lower flow. The lower the flow, the greater the kill ratio. I tend to run higher flow through my UV as I use UV primarily for water polishing as opposed to full sterilization. The pods that go through my 114 watt UV seem to survive just fine although their ability to reproduce after passing through it may be compromised.

That said, as others mentioned, if you have a heathy pod population, they will be all over your system and any that don't survive the pass through the UV will be inconsequential.

In salt water reef environments choose a UV that matches your flow rate per hour in the 30,000 or 45,000 columns of our chart. Flow rates in the 75,000 and 90,000 columns will destroy the planktonic food supply for the reef.

In other words, slow flow rate will kill pods so if you don't want UV to kill pods, then increase flow rate and they will not die.
