Asexual reproduction of a Favites
I belive this is a Favites, "pineapple" brain. I got the huge mother from a guy leaving the hobby in a hurry and within a couple of months it started doing this:
It was a tank hog so I gave the mother to a fellow reefer and kept one of the little guys to grow out: 12-14 months later, has developed a pretty heavy solid core.

That's actually a Favia or perhaps Goniastrea. Definitely not Favites, for sure. Favites polyps have shared corallite walls. Regardless it's a nice specimen.
What you are seeing is a known method of asexual reproduction for them, but you don't see it often in captivity. Very cool.
