Is this ich again?

So... It's being a couple of weeks since I notice the spots on the fish. Sadly despite having a quarantine protocol for any new adquisition it go into the system.

Here are some pics, so you can help me out identifying it.

All the fishes are eating like the pigs they are. I have being treating with medicated food and the famous medic product by polylab.

Yes...I'm sorry. I'd suggest to pull all of your fish for treatment with copper,cp, or TTM and run fallow in your display for 76 days. That's the only way to truly get rid of it, and acanthurus tangs don't tend to do well in ich management tanks :/

Yeah I already had to do that once. I will try to eliminate it using this product. If not I will have to quarantine all the fishes.

The issue is that my quarantine tank is a 30 gallon tank. Which means it can't hold all the fishes that I actually have. I'm also leaving for vacations. I can't leave them in the QT tank without supervision.

I'm sorry to hear this Juan. Ancanthurus tangs are notorious magnets for ich. If you can't pull the fish to treat before vacation, please don't hesitate to do so when you get back. I know it's frustrating, I am dealing with the same right now with a powder brown.

Sadly it's no looking good. The fish is still active, eating. I have not seen scratching. But no doubt there is something with it.

The only way you will become ich free is pulling all fish when you can, running the tank transfer method and leaving the display completely fish free for a minimum of 72 days. Longer is better here.

Hard part is that it is a lot of stress on the fish and some won't make it. There is NO reef safe ich medication. It does not exist.

Well after coming back from vacation I got massive casualties. I still have some survivers that I need to take out of the main tank ASAP.

SO HOW DO I catch a blue tang that's hiding a a Leopard wrasse that's usually not interested in frozen or any kind of food?

The wrasse won't go near anything because as I said it's not interested in frozen food.

The tang is hidding all the time. It dosent come out to eat.

Can you get ahold of any fish roe? That has helped me catch fish that didn't want to eat.

Can you move your corals elsewhere? If so you could drop the tank into hyposalinity and knock out the ich that way, then reintroduce your corals after their fallow period (and after slowly bringing salinity back up of course).

I have learned my lessons with ich in 2012 in a very hard way.
Since then I use UV 24/7.
36+15 Watt on less then 600 liter.
Never Swen ich again.

I have 2 quarantine systems. I'm still trying to figure out how the hell it got into the main system.

Sorry for the ich and losses! I know it can be very frustrating and disappointing. Id take this situation on the bright side though. Take out the rocks to get the rest of the fish out, its a pain, but only way to get them for sure. Use the down time to get a great cleaning going, change up the rock work for something new and even better, and to go fallow for at least 72. Start "fresh" and use your time to fix anything, upgrade, or edit any of your tanks essentials. And try to get a plan or procedure pin pointed to make sure that there is as little chance of this happening again.

I know its a pain and really frustrating; but you can only make the best of it and use it to your advantage. Don't let ich get the last word! Make your system even better then before and change whatever you want!

Ich is so tricky. There is aerosol transmission, cross contamination, copper resistant ich, etc. I'm very sorry to hear this but getting them out by any means will have to be done. Ich management will not work with acantherus tangs.

You can and will get through this. Perseverance always pays off with a great reward.

As a side note polyp lab medic is a complete snake oil. There are some reef safe products that dont treat ich but at least reduce its numbers. Medic is such a crappy product that you cant even see any improvements and it costs a fortune to treat a large tank for nothing.

Yeah but it was a worth a try. Sadly I was in a position where I couldnt take care of a QT system. That would mean a certain death for everybody in it. The product dosnt work, shame but there are tons of products that are snake oils. I dont know how they get permission to sell them since it could be considered fraud or false advertising.

Anyway, I will try to catch them. I cant tare the whole thing down because of the way its made.
