Powerheads and Current USA
As mentioned in a couple of other posts, our relatively new tank seems to be doing well. That said, we apparently have some cyanobacteria to deal with. Several folks suggested adding flow to the tank to help resolve the issue.
We have a Currents USA lighting setup, does it make sense to go with a wave/powerhead that works with the system, or should we opt for a different powerhead? The tank is 55 gallons and has both a carbon filter and a HOB skimmer. Thanks! |

You can stay with their package or use something else..it really wont matter..
Shoot for at least 1500gph of flow..split across multiple powerheads is usually better than one...even more so on a 55g as its long and hard to target with only a single

I use the current USA pumps in two tanks. Very happy with them.

I had 2 in my current 65g and decided to go with MP40's as I wasn't happy with their flow (Ialso just purchased a 120g rimless so that has been thought of too )

Thanks. Bought a couple of different brands to give them a try at opposite ends of the tank. Bummed that the Current Orbit required a hub that is in addition to the controller. Coming soon.
The other end has a Jebao OW-40. Even at the lowest setting (317 gph), seems to be providing more than expected flow. |

Finally got the hub for the Orbit. What a difference between the two powerheads. The Jebao, even at its lowest setting (317gph), is much, much more powerful than the Orbit at full speed (660gph). Something seems amiss. As we're new to this whole thing, not sure which one is accurate. FWIW, at full speed, I'm thinking the Jebao could pull a water skier.
