Are my zoa goners?
I bought some superduperman zoas over a month ago and they never opened up. It doesn't seem like they melted just small and closed up. Any ideas?
Latest parameters PH - 8 Ammonia - 0 Nitrite - 0 Nitrate - 20 Alk - 9.1 CA - 490 Mg - 1840 Mg is really high but I don't think it affected zoas. Plus I have 8 other types and they are all doing great. Thanks |

Try to get your nitrates down to at least 5, your calcium down to the 450 range and your magnesium to the 1300-1400 range. You should see improvements

looks like algae or fungus growth.. I'd do a peroxide dip 1part Hydo to 4 part water.
Usually kills all algae off the coral and plug. If the Zoa is healthy it should easily survive it. Do some water changes to take off the Nitrate

Definitely dip them with the above mentioned solution.
Also, one thing that I have found to be beneficial is to go through with a turkey baster at least once a week and blow off the mats of my Zoas. It irritates them, and they close up, but when they are open all day there is a tendency to build up detritus under their heads where the flow isn't as good. Over time, this builds up. |

yep at least once a week or 2, turkey baster to blow water thru the polyps to move dirt, dietrius and crud off and around the polyps.

When I was dosing tech M to try to eradicate my bryopsis, the mag got to 2200. My Rastas closed big time. I thought they were goners. A water change or two later and no more dosing and they are back to normal and flourishing well.

Yeah. I didn't do the dip Ike people mentioned because one of my turbo snail actually went through it and ate the algae clean off them. They were still closed afterward and around thanksgiving I dipped them in furan-2 to see if it would help. I had a small nudibrach attack and was dipping my BBEB because one in the colony died from being eaten and I didn't want the rest of the colony to get an infection. I'll make a separate post about that. The superduperman are doing a lot better now since the dip. Initially when they first started opening up from being closed for over a month the entire zoa was purple. Even the inside when it opened up. Now it looks like it's gaining it's color back. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow. Thanks all
