Amphiprion bicinctus (Nest 23)

Since I have the time now and hopefully enough food and the bicinctus were kind enough to put their eggs on a rock I could take out I decided to give it a shot on raising a few babies. Only about a quarter hatched since I took the rock out too late and exposed the nest to brighter light, but that should be enough for now.

Here a video of the larvae on the morning of their first day. Feeds are Bracionus and Apocyclops panamensis:

The parents (male in the front) with the remaining eggs:

The parents put nest 24 down before nest 23 had fully hatched:

The larvae on the evening of the 2. day. Feeds are Bracionus and Artemia.

The larvae in the afternoon of the 3. day. Feeds are Bracionus and Artemia.

Day 7:

Day 8:

Lost more than half of them through a stupid mistake: added a sponge filter with too large pores

Survivors still going strong:

Nest #24 is due to hatch Saturday night:

Day 9:

Today, in addition to the usual few day old brine shrimp nauplii, I fed some Tigriopus but not sure if they took any.

Brachionus is becoming a problem as they no longer go after it but it still continues to multiply since I have to add a bit green water daily for the brine shrimp.

In a few days I plan on adding 2 BTA to see when the larvae actually settle.

Yeah. They are in metamorphosis now and looking good so far. Some look already like tiny bicinctus. Got to upload the videos later.

Monday the parents put nest #25 down, this time on a ceramic shard that will make taking it out easy:

Day 17:

Little bicinctus!

Day 18:

Most have finished metamorphosis. One single juvenile settled in the anemone:

Now I just need to find someone else breeding with wild-caught Djibauti bicinctus to swap some juveniles with in order to avoid incest when making pairs with the juveniles.
