I know what you mean. Would have been nice to have heard back from EcoTech directly about the hanging kit.

Hey anyone have any screenshots of what the PC software looks like for configuration? Also does the Neptune WXM have any capability to control this light? It would be cool to control everything wirelessly, pumps and lights, all from the Neptune.

Just confirmed with MD that my two Radions are shipping today with the hanging kit! Should have it by Monday since I'm local.

If we don't see pictures Monday then it didn't happen

I got my lights from MD minus the hanging kit. Glad you got yours! Hopefully my hanging kit is shipping as well!

Alright guys, I uploaded a couple of videos on youtube, so I thought that I would try to put up the links:

The first one is the actual unboxing of the Radion

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPa4cESCRMg

This one is how I intend to hang it over my tank

Lol, I'm one of the whiny can't hang them without a custom rail crowd. I have two lamp poles and will have to rig something up over the weekend. Such pressure!

Confirmed. screw spacing is the same as the Aqua illumination hanging kit and even accepts the same size screws. the screws are too long, but they work. Just went to home depot and picked up new screws. If you want a hanging fixture with adjustable spacing and don't mind the aesthetics of the AI hanging kit, there's your answer.

I do not see natural mode in my settings for the Radions. Am I doing something wrong? I believe both units have the updated firmware

I noticed that also, but thought it had to do with not having a light plugged in. Anyone with lights have that problem?

Been there, done that. My home depot solution will look better, hopefully.

I'm sort of confused on what lighting options the software presently gives you. Does the Radion currently have the ability to simulate a natural monthly moon cycle?

Natural Mode is not available yet, only Artificial Mode is available in this first software release. However releases will come out frequently until all of our promised features are available.

Thanks! I'm still a couple months away from having a tank to put them over, I'm sure there will be plenty more features by then.

Can't wait for mine to come in. Kind of sucks about the hanging kits being shipped later on. I'm also kind of disappointed about the whole natural mode not available out of the box and who know what other features may not be available as well. Guess we have to wait...

Initial experience with two Radions

I purchased two Radion fixtures.

I have hanged them from the ceiling temporarily, with rope. My tank is 4feet long, but it’s 38” wide, and shallow: 22”. The water column, however, sand excluded, is only 18”.

Initially, I experimented hanging the Radions 6 inches away from the water surface, but I got an unlit portion in the middle of the tank, and marked shadows.

At 12” from the water (see pics) the shadows disappear and the tank appears more homogeneously lit.

I used the spectral plots reported in Advanced Aquarist by Sanjai Joshi for Iwasaki and Radium 250W bulbs to guide me in programming spectral peaks and lows for the Radion. I followed Riddle’s work to manage the red part of the spectrum.

The measurements below were taken at noon, when I programmed the fixture to display the highest relative intensity.

Average PAR measurements (Apogee) on the mid to upper reef (12 measurements) is 305; range: 170-455.

Note on expectations:

The tank appears dimmer than it did under MH / Compact combo, even though PAR measurements are on par.

The reds, pinks, and blues appear washed; mute, a little bland.

Glitter lines do compare to MH’s.

Software does not include natural mode; only artificial. I experienced problems with launching speed. Overall, the interface feels underdeveloped, not as user friendly as it could be.
