My rotor shaft on my BK 2000 snapped.
So I noticed my BK Supermarin wasn't running last night. At first I thought the motor block went out. I disassembled the pump and immediately saw the issue. The titanium rotor shaft had sheared off right at the magnet.
How does this even happen? There was no obstruction in the pump inlet nor is there any way for snails or other animals to even get to that part of my sump. Anyway, I'm in need of a replacement ASAP. I went to the Royal Exclusive USA site and it says a qty of 1 is not available. Please help me get my skimmer back on line. |

Wow. That's something we don't see very often. That was likely the result of a lack of maintenance & or a very old impeller. If you look between the break and the needle wheel, you can see how the shaft is dulled and worn down. That is the result of calcium buildup between the shaft and upper bearing. The calcium buildup likely overheated the shaft and made it brittle. The bearing likely sized or binded on the shaft as a result of calcium in there and the torque from the magnet spinnnig could have in theory sheared the shaft. I strongly suggest doing a breakdown and cleaning every 4-5 months. If you look at the thread below, proper cleaning is discussed including the bearing removal which is mentioned is post 2 of the thread below. If you do the regular maintenance, these pumps will never fail you.
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=2573406 That said, the impellers are likely out of stock in the US. We are waiting for our next shipment from Germany and awaiting the ETA. Its likely 2 weeks out before it arrives. At least that is our hope. You could order directly from Germany. The link below is the RD2000 impeller for an SuperMarin 250. Not sure what skimmer you have but if its not the SM250, you can choose spare parts and go to rotors and then it will let you choose from the different skimmer lines to find the correct impeller for your skimmer/pump. The price in the link includes VAT which would be deducted. Not sure what the shipping cost will be since I am based in the US but that would likely be your fastest method to get the impeller. http://royalexclusiv.net/en/spare-pa...pump-2000.html

Thanks for your reply. I suppose that is as good an explanation as any. I admit that it had been about 7-8 months since I performed a thorough cleaning of the pump and that is much longer than recommended but still seems odd. Also I am the second owner of this skimmer so I cant speak to prior maintenance. Perhaps previous wear under those types of condition also contributed to weakening the shaft. Not too mention this one of the earlierst supermarin 200s available so it is old as well. When I took the pump apart I didnt notice any excess build up on the rotor. Regardless this should serve as lesson to all about the importance of routine maintenance. I appreciate the link you provided. I actually have a Supaermarin 200 but its the older model and my Pump is labeled as a BK2000 so I assume it dosnt matter that its running on a supermarin 200? Also could any other damage have occurred to the motor block? Would it be more advisable to buy a complete pump assembly instead? Here is the other end of the rotor for reference as well as a pic of the motor block. |

Interesting. The SM200 originally had a BK1500 block.. Do me a favor. Take a look at the photo below. It shows you how to measure the impeller. More importantly the magnet. This image is only for illustration and will not reflect your impeller. Measure your magnet and let me know if it's 50mm. We may actually have the impeller in stock in Florida but I want to double check with Germany since your SM200 has the BK2000 block.

Super! That will certainly help. It's not often that people on this side of the pond have a metric ruler! I do but most don't. I am also assuming that Westminster is in the US and possible Westinster Calif???
I sent an email off to Germany and directed them to this thread so they can see the pictures. I should have an update for you in the morning.

Just confirmed. This is the correct impeller. This is the Eu website. They are included with our next shipment but I don't have the ETA on that yet. Like I said, it's likely at least 2 weeks before that shipments arrives.

The link you included looks like its for the 50mm. I believe I need the 60mm, I don't see a selection option for that. Is there another link to the 60mm version? Thanks! |

Germany told be it was the X-1 which is for the Deluxe 200. Though you have the BM2000, I think the X-1 is the correct impeller for you skimmer and not the 1-3. I can double check again with Germany but they did say X-1 which is 1-1 in the US

I see, I misread/misunderstood the "Size" reference listed in the technical data. I assumed the "size 50" meant 50mm. I see now that down below the magnet dimensions match up. I was also thrown by the listing under the BK1000 instead of the BK2000 (which is how my motor block is labeled) I think thats the part that just concerns me the most. Not trying to argue or doubt you, you obviously are extremely knowledgable I just want to avoid any possibility of accidentally ordering the wrong part. Again thanks so much for your help. complete rotor Bubble King® Technical data: for Bubble King® pump 1000 with metal-shaft needle wheel: size 50 POM black 110V/60Hz magnet-dimensions length: 60mm diameter Ø: 30mm |

Sorry for the delay. I have Germany reviewing the pictures you posted again to be 100% certain. I think the part number I provided above was correct. They replied back this morning with a question and I sent them the pictures again as soon as i got in but it was evening in Germany. As such, hang tight until tomorrow.

So the rotor I linked to above is the correct rotor. You could use the Rotor for the BK2000 which is a larger rotor but that is suited more for the 300 series skimmers. It will work fine but you may need to lower your sump level or open the wedge pipe some.
60mm rotor for Deluxe 200. Disregard the BK1000. This rotor will work fine and is most likely what you have now as it was the recommended rotor for the Deluxe 200. http://royalexclusiv.com/Spare-Parts...1000::852.html This is the other 60mm rotor for BK2000. http://royalexclusiv.com/Spare-Parts...2000::181.html As I said, both will work but the first one is the rotor that the Deluxe 200's were shipping with.
