seems the consensus is to replace the bulkhead with a better one..
I've heard they are absolutely junk/cheap/thin,etc...

Yea they are low quality because who really cares if they leak outside in an animal pen?

What would be a good replacement for it?

This is where i am at right now with the leak.I set this up back in 2017 had some problems then just couldn't get it to stop leaking.Ended up using silcone to stop it.Just out of the blue it started to leak again. So i drain it and replace the bulkhead with a new replacement from TSC.Thought it was good but no it started to leak again.I have it set up to have a valve on it to drain it for water changes. The inside diameter is 1.50.Is there any thing else available for a replacement. Thanks for the help.

So are you saying the hole in the tub itself with the current bulkhead removed is 1.5"? (you confused me saying inside diameter.. which makes me thing there is an accompanying OD.. which there wouldn't be with a hole in a tub)

Also confusing that you "set this up back in 2017".. I had to go check the calendar and ask my wife if I passed out for a few years again...

Lets also make sure you are putting the "nut" side inside the tank and have the gasket under the flange on the outside of the tank?

bulkheads are here.. hole sizes shown there too..
https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/pumps...bulkheads.html
You may have to enlarge the hole slightly..

I'd try a new bulkhead. Bulk Reef Supply generally has good products, but a local hardware store might have some, too. I'd get a grade certified for drinking water use.

Ok thats fine too as long as you have the gasket on the inside under the flange

Measure hole.. buy accordingly from BRS or other.. Enlarge hole if needed..

If its leaking at the threads where something is attached to the bulkhead (and its a threaded bulkhead now) you may be better off going with a slip vs threaded and gluing it in..

I personally avoid threaded fittings whenever possible even though I know how to use them properly (thread sealant/proper torque,etc...) I have NEVER had a glued fitting leak.. I have a threaded leak in the past at least once..
