Your corals are clearly doing much better under the T5's. It is exactly this occurrence with LED's that prevents me from upgrading to LED's. I am yet to see a tank fully grown on LED's that can rival MH or T5 systems. Something is just not quite there...

I know Sahin, thats whats got me worried now as i have 3 GHL LEDs coming and im scared to use them from my past experience with LED. Im happy with the direction my tank is going and have a nervouse feeling that the LED might halt that

I think you will be very happy with the newer leds now that they are full spectrum. I have the pacific sun hyperion with t5's. I am seeing amazing growth and the colors are amazing even with the t5's off.
Here are a couple of shots from my tank...these are not filtered and no photo shop and taken under led's only.

But: I get great colour out of my custom modified ATI Sunpower with T5/LED hybrid...So I am scared of moving over to 100% LED's. The main reason for wanting to swap over is to avoid the bulb changes, have a sleeker light unit and be able to gain some experience and knowledge regarding keeping SPS under 100% LED's. It will be a new challenge...but I dont want it if the ultimate colour cannot be obtained. Quote:
I have a T5/LED combo and I love it. The coral colours are very good. |

My unit was built with t5's. I only run the t5's right now for about 3.5 hrs a day because the leds are really powerful. When both t5's and leds are on at 100% I am getting par readings of 300 on the sand bed and thats with the light 30" from the sand bed.

Anxiously awaiting Rodney, I held off on the Mitras. Decided not to be an early adopter this time around.

However, my reason for going from T5 to T5/LED was because of the space in the canopy. It could only hold 5 T5 and did not give enough par for SPS keeping. With 2 T5 removed and installed 2 rows of LEDs, I have sufficient par for SPS.

Nice LED system. Can't wait to see the results on the corals.

Too early to have formed an opinion on the lights output yet, though initial impressions are good. The light is bright, after having the ATI on I didnt get the feel of dim lighting LEDs are traditionally associated with, coverage and spread is great, shimmer is nice and no spotlighting or disco effect. Cant see any color splitting actually which im surprised with. One thing I have noticed with this light, compared to my old illumina. With the ATI colors were amazing...swap out with the illumina and colors just didnt show - eg my pink birdsnest was a dull pinky/brown with the illumina on, put the ATI up and bright pink reflection instantly. Now with the Mitras I get the nice bright pink, due to the 9 color LEDs which gives me high hoopes for this light. My reds look red under this light, the big test now is time to see if the corals maintain the colors. Ill post updates monthly of color and growth progress
