Need Advice: Cadlights Artisan II Sump Setup

Hi All,

I'm in the process of establishing my new Cadlights Artisan II 125G reef tank. The sump design is proving to be less than desirable and I need your help/advice on how to setup a refugium in the stock sump.

My major compunction with the sump design is it has a huge skimmer chamber and a huge return pump chamber but yet the two chambers designed for mechanical and biological filtration are really small.

Here is a shot of the entire sump.

The chamber advertised as the sump is less than 3" of usable space side-to-side.

So my question is does anybody have any suggestions on how they would establish a working refugium (2" of Fiji Mud, Chaeto, and live rock) in this Cadlights sump?

Thanks in advance.

Todd

Just discovered this thread as I have the 100G Artisan II and I have my chaeto crammed into the larger of the two sections and am now thinking of getting rid of the center divider to make a larger refugium section. Has anyone else done this?

I removed the short baffles in my cadlights sump to convert the middle section into a refugium. It wasn't too difficult although I'm not sure why cadlights added it in the first place.

hey guys. i have a 100G Artisan. i changed that sump many times but found that the best way for me is to convert the "media" 2nd chamber connecting to the original refugium chamber greatly increasing its size. their "media" chamber is used for foam pads, sponges, chemical filtration bags etc. it worked great for a while, but since im using a filter sock, i had no use for the media chamber and just removed the 2 pcs of glass that separates the 2nd to 3rd to make the double sized refugium area.
