Need Info Re External Reef Octopus Skimmer (Connecting CO2 Scrubber?)

I am considering getting a Reef Octopus external recirculating skimmer, either the SRO 3000 Ext or the Regal 200 Ext. I am using a CO2 scrubber (it works!).

Question: how would I connect airline from CO2 scrubber to the skimmer? On either model, the air silencer is a long vertical tube with what appears to be a cap of some sort at the top, presumably with a hole in it. See below. Could I remove that cap and connect airline tubing -- e.g., 1/2" ID -- directly over the top of the tube? Remove cap and glue a slip x thread adapter to the end, then screw hose barb to that? Some other method? Thanks.

Yes, removing the cap on the grey air intake PVC and replacing it with the fittings beeded to connect to your CO2 scrubber would be the way to go. Verify that it is in fact 1/2” and not metric. You may also end up partially closing (valve or pinch) the air recirc line that comes from the collection cup to force more feed air to go through the scrubber.
