I would love to recreate a millepora sponge zone reef. Millepora is not exactly hobby friendly though. I had great success with sponge in my last tank so Im pretty confident about that part. I knew it was good when I broke my tank down and found it growing in my circulation piping Anyway I look forward to discussing it with you when I get closer. In the meantime, in your experience, have you found any corals or other items that you could not keep with the larger angels? Any specific coral, invert or fish that just would not work? Thanks. Hi John,
Can you describe what you're using to keep the fish from escaping your tanks. More specifically on your 180, where you're buring 3x400W, what material are you using that is able to withstand the heat, assuming you use a mesh or some type. You mentioned running UV as preventative measures. Are you employing this full time, 24/7, 360? I use it for the same reasons, but only before and after introducing new fish for approximately 6 weeks. Once all fish show no signs of infection I turn it off. What's your take on this practice? Gorgeous tanks by the way! |

Thanks for the Roggers Reef Food tip, I am still looking for a source here in Canada.
Would you mind giving your opinion as to the size of Aqua UV you would use with a total water volume of 500g, thanks again. |

Hi John, I'm a newbie just getting into this, and actually this is my very first post. Stunning display, article, and info! Have read every single posting on this thread and it's apparent to me that in addition to being one of the leaders of this wonderful hobby, that you are obviously a very kind and generous person. I will continue to read and learn from you and the others. Thanks, Keith

Can you please help in answering a question?
Dear John,
Your tanks are inspiration to me. If I may, I would like to ask you a question on one aspect of your 60-gallon tank. In order to prevent fish jumping, you seem to be using some sort of screen that is resting on your tank. I would like to know what it is and whether or not it casts any shadows on your corals or reduce the intesity of your lights. I am in the process of setting up a 60-gallon tank. I am going to follow your foot steps. I have lost quite a lot of fish in my open top nano due to jumping, but could not come up with a viable solution without reducing the light intensity. I find losing fish very distressing, which is perfectly preventable. On the other hand, I do not want my corals to suffer due to restricted lights. Thank you in anticipation. |

Hi John;
I know this thread has been dormant for a while, but if you can can you explain you home-made water makeup system? I'm looking to put together something that will make water changes easier, ideally sans 2 peristaltic pumps (which can get spendy). Thanks! |

Amazing TOTM
John you're exceptional tank and angels are making me consider getting some more exciting Angels. I have a few Centrotypes I love but am considering Regal and Goldflake. Have heard they can be challenging in captivity. Can you share your secrets to success/experiences? I have a large SPS dominated tank but also clams and a few LPS and some territorial tangs.
Thanks Sandip |
