Anyone with experience with this angel? Saw one locally for sale and was tempted.

I have one in my reef. Very well behaved and, obviously, quite stunning.

Thoughts on their temp requirements?

I've kept 2 over the years at normal reef tank temps. (76-80) I had the first for 3 years before it was killed in a mass wipeout event. I've had the second for a year now. No issues with either of them. Fat, happy and aggressive feeders.
I did not acclimate them to temp. Just the standard QT regimen.

Rare Fish at the Waikiki Aquarium: A Long History By J. Charles Delbeek M.Sc. Charles discusses various rare fish that the Waikiki Aquarium has had on exhibit. "The Waikiki Aquarium has a display of fishes commonly found in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands, a chain of islands, atolls and seamounts stretching 1200 miles (1932 km) northwest of Kauai. Due to their location and the direction of the prevailing currents, the western most of these atolls contain fish also found in Japan and that is where the Aquarium’s specimens of C. interrupta were collected under permit from the US Fish and Wildlife Service on Midway Atoll, back in 1992. This is a relatively easy fish to keep as it will accept a wide variety of foods. It is a larger species (~ 15 cm) than most of the other Centropyge and thus needs a much larger tank to do well. This is another species that has been bred in captivity and offered for sale in the past few years (www.rcthawaii.com) and captive bred specimens are exceptionally hardy. Wild caught specimens from Japan are sensitive to shipping and most do not do well when shipped over long distances. Since this is a more temperate species, water temperatures should be maintained no higher than 77 oF (25 oC) with 70-75 oF (21-24 oC) ideal." |

My winter temps are within the recommended range but I can’t keep the tank below 77 in these Southern California summers when my tank temp swings between 77 and 80 even with a chiller. Clearly not ideal, but so far no health or behavioral issues have arisen. Perhaps long term they may. I wonder what temp RCT kept its breeding pair at?
