Unknown algae, ID please
The pump on my reactors failed and I didn't notice so my nitrate went from 5 to 25. I don't know phosphate yet as I need a new test kit.
This algae is hard and will not scrub off with a toothbrush. Up close it looks like tiny threads/hairs. The tank is 125 gallons with a 55 gallon sump. It is 4 years old. Any help identifying this and how to remove it would be appreciated. Obviously getting my reactors back up and running is priority #1. |

Sounds like red turf algae. I hate that stuff. Blue tux urchin helped control it for me

Gosh, I hope it's not Gelidium! Take care of it immediately because it's nightmare to get rid of. At first I thought it looked cool but after a while it took over and covered just about every rock I had and had to start over with new rock!😡
