sch40 or sch80

FINALLY FIIIINALLY moving my tank into the new house with the wife. I have to redo all of the plumbing and bulkheads. So should I go with sch40 or 80 PVP pipe?

Either work just fine. The only reason to go sch80 is for the look of the dark gray pipe. Sch 80 is going to be a bit more expensive then regular white sch40, but its cheaper then the colored sch40. Sch 80 is generally harder to find too as most retailers only carry regular sch40.

Sch 40 is def more common and plenty thick enough for aquarium use. I think sch 80 is used for moving water under higher pressure.

Plus Sch80 actually has a slightly smaller ID than Sch40.

There is no reason to use schedule 80, you are perfectly fine with schedule 40, and like I mentioned above, the inside diameter is slightly different, but that's only because the actual pipe is thicker on the schedule 80. Schedule 80 is rated for a lot more pressure and is generally used underground

I use for the bulk of my plumbing, what is commonly (but incorrectly) referred to as Sch20. It is even thinner walled that Sch40 but still uses the same fittings. I figure that every little bit of extra flow I can get can only be good, especially since over time, gunk will build up inside, further impeding flow.

I don't think I've ever seen sch20 in any of the hardware stores around me

It's more commonly called class 200 PVC.

I prefer schedule 80 bulkheads when I'm using them for a closed-loop ,and drilling the bottom of the tank.

^^ +1

If you are on the bottom of a tank and not behind an overflow box sch80 bulkhead. Otherwise sch40.

If your tank is already drilled for schedule 40, a schedule 80 bulkhead probably won't fit. Check the hole diameters required for each on BRS website. You can mix and match 40 and 80 if you want to, and you can mix and match schedule 40 colored pipe.

Only thing I would recommend is spend the extra $ for the true Union valves there's no comparison to the cheap ones I used mostly cheap ones and was a mistake
