1000w MH lights
I got a really cheap 1000w MH grow light ( i think it was a pot grower). Anyways, brand new in box with 2 6500k bulbs. i've read that you can successfully raise some corals with that bulb but there are very few corals that will tolerate this.
so i tried to find a 1000W bulb that 10k or higher but i can not find anything! any suggestions where to get them? or if they even make them. also, what types of corals can grow with a 6500k bulb? thanks, Mark |

6500k can grow corals just fine. Just that 6500k has a lot of yellow in it and washes out the color of the corals and makes them look brown.
What size tank do you have that you need 1000w? |

Google shows results for a "1000W MH 10k bulb"
Manufacturers like Solistek, Ushio,etc... As stated 6500k will certainly grow corals but the tank will be quite yellow and corals won't fluoresce/glow like a higher kelvin bulb (more shorter wavelength weighted)

That will be a huge waste of electricity, running 1000w MH over a 125. With the lack of bulb choices and the waste of electricity I would look for an alternative light setup.

Radium also makes a 1000w bulb. That said, you wouldn't want to use a 1000w light in that fashion. I've run 3x 250w over a 150 but you need to be able to focus the light to get it into the tank. Just hanging it in the air above everything isn't going to work very well. It works great for weed, not so much for fish tanks. Also, 1000w is a lot of heat, that poor tortoise would probably get too hot.

Reef Brite makes a 14k 1000wt bulb. May have to talk to BRS or Aquarium speciality to get it ordered though
