So, here's the deal. I feel kind of bad about posting about it, because I'm sure Eshopps is going to handle it, but it is what it is at this point.

I don't know why, but the neck of my skimmer cup developed some pretty bad crazing. It still works, but obviously on a three week old skimmer it's a little annoying.

I wish I knew why it happened so I could prevent it from happening again, but I am not sure why. My old one never had such an issue. The outside of the skimmer cup and the body are fine, I imagine they are cast acrylic and the neck is extruded acrylic. Eshopps has been good to deal with, the only issue is they don't have any extra cups and don't expect them for about three weeks. This one still works so, not a major problem. I hope this is a one-off issue.

Well that stinks. Stop dropping it on the floor...just kidding! I've had my axium about the same length of time. No issues. Do you use really hot water when washing it out? I wonder if some kind of cold to hot thing could have happened. Anyways, I'm sure they will take care of you.

The axium continues to crank it out. In my smaller system, there are times of great production and other times are minimal. The skimmer began to skim more wet so I've made a slight adjustment to the gate valve closing it a little more. The sicce pump gets turned off at least once a day, no issues with restart at this point. I continue to enjoy this x-120 skimmer. It sits in 7.5 inches of water.

Sorry to hear about your skimmer problem. I haven't noticed any crazing on my skimmer so far. My x-160 continues to perform very well. Here's 8 days of skim collected. I'm satisfied with my purchase.

Can't find any published figures on air draw for S-120 4th gen. skimmer.
Anyone have any clues?

These are some slick skimmers. I love the cone line. I believe I gave one of my service clients a 120 and it skims like crazy. My new setup will most likely have an Eshopps.

Thanks Potatohead for the air draw figure. My S-120 4th gen. is coming today.
I have a rather small system: 46 gal. tank, 20 gal. sump (with maybe 12 gal. of actual water). I currently have an Icecap K2-120 and it has been doing quite well. I was really intrigued by the new EDDY bubble plate, so I pulled the trigger. The bubbles on the K2 go out the side, which is different from my previous skimmers. I have run a NYOS 120 and an Aquamaxx ConeS CO-1 on this same system, and the K2 skimmed the best. This is a mixed reef with softies and LPS, medium load.
I will check back with results after skimmer breaks in and I give it some time.

Wow...you have tried a lot of good skimmers with a small footprint. Your input should be valuable to anyone comparison shopping. Go ahead and pick up an Axium too...lol. It has the same wine bottle shape of the K2. That might make for an interesting comparison too...wine shape vs true cone. Curious to see your observations. Keep us posted.

Funny you posted this. I have a previous gen S-200 and about a month or so ago I noticed the same thing on my cup in about 2 or 3 spots right near the twist lock. I've had 2 other Eshopps cone skimmers before this and didn't notice the issue.

Got the S-120 Thursday and gave it a 2 hour vinegar/water bath. Put it into the sump Thursday evening.
First photo is at a day and a half.
Second and third photos are at two and a half days.
It's currently in about 8 1/4" of water, air wide open and gate valve about
halfway closed.

Impressed with Eshopps.

Two weeks ago they told me three weeks before they get new cups for my warranty issue. A little over a week later (last Thursday), they emailed to confirm my address. Today, the cup arrived, and it was shipped here to Canada which typically takes 7 - 10 days. They also included a new lid... Great service overall.

Good to hear. Customer service means a lot. The Eshopps is still in my top 2 to replace my current Skimmer. I have the Eshopps R-300 refugium sump. Really liking that so far. Just haven't decide between the Simplicity skimmer or the Eshopps Axium x220 skimmer. I just wish I could see one in action. My LFS runs the simplicity but no Axium set up yet

will the X-120 work in 6" water? I know the specs say 7-9", but my sump skimmer section level is 6".

The x-120 specs says 10w power consumption, but the sicce se-200 pump specs says 40 watts, Anyone with X-120 or S-120 measured the power usage using killawatt?

I think the 10watt spec does not look right.

Those specs are correct. When you convert a pump to a pinwheel it draws less wattage. If it's moving less water then it's doing less work, less work = less watts.

But aren't psk pumps specifically built for protein skimmers? Hence the ps in psk stands for protein skimmer? That's why I got confused and wanted to know if anyone actually measured the power usage using a killawatt. For the same size dc pump, it is 10watts, so are you saying the ac pump will also consume 10 watts? I know my current skimmer that use ac pump use the wattage exactly as marked on the pump, and that is way higher than the same sized dc pump power usage. I am trying to find a new skimmer with less power consumption and definitely will consider estopps if someone can confirm/show the killawatt reading.

No, at least not in the S-120. The cup is big though I only clean it about every two weeks. You could easily add a hole also.
