Lowering Alk in my new salt water mix
I over added buffer to raise my alk in my new salt water mix and now it’s too high. It’s 14 and I want 8.5. How should I lower it or should I just dispose of it and make new ??
This water is for my water change. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If you are doing a small change, you could use it as is. A mineral acid like hydrochloric acid will lower the alkalinity permanently, but it's worth some care in use. If you have a spare container, you could use half this water and half of another batch. For a 10% change, that would move the alkalinity up by .25 dKH, which is fairly small.

I wound up dumping the mix and redoing another batch.

Hardware store bought muriatic acid is often used by those with a salt mix higher in alk to lower it...

leave an internal pump circulating the water and in a day or 2 alk will drop

I do it all the time with reef crystals. Just subtract current tank dkh from rc mix dkh. Multiply the difference times the number of gallons then multiply time .123. This is the amount of muriatic acid to add. It does not take much. If you can run an air stone to aereate the water it will raise the ph before you put it in the tnak.
