Gyre on 5 1/2 foot tank.

Hey everyone, was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on programming a single gyre xf250 which is mounted about 3 inches from the water surface on the wall side of a peninsula tank. I've played with the settings a bit and cant seem to find a setting I like. Dont have any corals or anything in here yet but once cycling is done this will be a mixed reef. Thanks I appreciate it! How do you all have your Gyres set?

Max speed down that I can run without moving sand or blowing over corals. Just enough speed up to create good water movement at the surface.

What is it that you don't like?

I run mine on the back and forth setting and I havnt cleaned mine for over a year. The reverse setting is pretty weak, but it keeps buildup off of the grates.

BTW, I run one on each end of the tank. Mines a 5' tank. I couldnt find a happy setting with just 1 gyre either.

I only run one, but I also have two wavemakers on the back wall of the tank. One on either side of the center overflow.

Well I was hoping for that wave effect I see some people get, and was wondering how, cant seem to find that effect no matter what I set it at. Maybe thats due to only having the one on the wall side and right below the return jet which is constant and strong. I won't be able to run a second on the opposite end (at least not without looking silly with a wire). My sand was moving around and is bare on the far end where it hits the wall and flows down into the sand BEFORE I even added the gyre. I'll need to put in a different sand with a higher grain size on that far end to prevent this. I think I have it set to gradual ramp to 60% for 3-5 seconds (cant remember what I set) then off for a second then back up again. Was just curious what others with a single pump are doing. Probably just my ocd and wouldnt really affect the inhabitants all that much... Thanks for the input everyone still curious what you guys have yours set to do.
